p.1
The provision is good
The childminder has a reassuring and gentle manner, which helps children feel safe and happy. She builds positive relationships with children and helps them develop friendships. Older children show kindness towards their younger friends. For example, they help them to find the dolls clothes they want and comment on how well they are doing during a craft activity.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder promotes children's learning and helps them to make links during their play. Children use their imagination as they pretend to sell 'ice creams'. The childminder joins in with their play and provides them with additional resources, such as a toy ice-cream cart, to extend their interest and learning. Children grow in confidence as the childminder encourages all children to take part. They develop an awareness of numbers as they talk about how much money they need to buy an 'ice cream'. Children are motivated and excited to learn.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder plans a good range of activities that children are interested in and are eager to explore. Younger children develop their own ideas and select the items they want. They concentrate and develop their hand-eye coordination as they thread wooden and metal rings onto a stick. The childminder praises children and acknowledges their efforts, which promotes their self-esteem and confidence to persist.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder has taken action to improve her knowledge and understanding about safeguarding procedures. She has completed training to refresh her safeguarding knowledge. The childminder has reviewed and updated her safeguarding policy and implemented risk assessments to ensure children's safety. n The childminder successfully engages with children during activities. Children begin to learn about colours and numbers as they talk with the childminder during a craft activity where they make a clock. The childminder shows children a clock face and points out how the numbers are positioned. Children are eager to point at and say the numbers and colours they recognise. n The childminder knows each child well. She plans the curriculum taking into account children's interests. However, the childminder does not always use the information she knows about children's individual development to ensure that activities consistently build on what they already know and can do.
p.2
need to do better?
n Overall, the childminder promotes children's language skills well. She talks to children about what they are doing and introduces new vocabulary. She listens to children and gives them time to contribute to the conversation. However, sometimes the childminder asks children questions in quick succession.

10 June 2024 Additionally, she does not consistently adapt how she asks these questions to reflect the different ages of children she is talking to. This means at times younger children do not understand or are not given enough time to think about what they want to say in response. n Children learn to behave well and play alongside one another. The childminder is a positive role model for the children and treats everyone with respect. She is calm and consistent in her approach and gives children gentle reminders to share and take turns. n The childminder promotes children's independence skills. Children are encouraged to help to tidy away when they have finished playing. They learn to put their own jackets and boots on ready for outside play in the garden. Children clearly demonstrate they feel relaxed and confident in the childminder's home. They know where to find the toys they want and initiate conversations with the

childminder. n The childminder shares information with parents daily, so parents are kept up to date with how their child has been during the day and about the activities they have enjoyed. Children take toys and books home to play with and read with their parents. This effective partnership working contributes to a consistent approach in children's learning.
