p.1
Context and focus of visit
Ofsted undertakes to carry out monitoring visits to all newly directly funded providers of apprenticeship training provision funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and/or the apprenticeship levy. This follow-up safeguarding monitoring visit has been carried out consequent to the provider being found to be making insufficient progress with respect to safeguarding at their previous monitoring visit. It follows the arrangements outlined in the ‘Further education and skills inspection handbook’.
p.2
Context and focus of visit
The focus of this visit is only on the safeguarding theme below.
p.2
Context and focus of visit
Star Greenwich Education (SGE) was established in 2012 as an independent training provider based in Woolwich, south-east London. Since May 2023, SGE has been teaching apprentices on dental nursing, health and social care and mortgage advisor standards. At the time of the monitoring visit, fewer than five apprentices were studying the dental nursing standard. The other apprentices had been withdrawn or transferred to other providers.
p.2
Reasonable progress
Leaders and managers have ensured that all staff have completed the necessary safeguarding and ‘Prevent’ duty training. Tutors are now able to use this information in lessons to help apprentices understand the importance of how to keep themselves safe, and how this applies in the workplace.
p.2
Reasonable progress
Apprentices know how to keep themselves safe. They understand the risks they face, based on where they work in London. Apprentices feel confident about raising any concerns either to their tutor, the designated safeguarding lead or to their employer.
p.2
Reasonable progress
Leaders have established links with the appropriate local authorities in London. This helps them to understand the local risks that could potentially impact apprentices in those areas. However, this information is not reflected in their ‘Prevent’ duty risk assessment. This means that leaders have not identified well enough the actions they need to take to mitigate these risks. Monitoring visit: Star Greenwich Education, 21 June 2024 regulates and inspects to achieve excellence in the care of children and young people, and in education and skills for learners of all ages. It regulates and inspects childcare and children’s social care, and inspects the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass), schools, colleges, initial teacher training, further education and skills, adult and community learning, and education and training in prisons and other secure establishments. It assesses council
