p.1

The provision requires improvement

The childminder has made several changes since her last inspection which have helped to improve the opportunities she provides for children. She has worked with local services and other providers, and has a better understanding of how to meet the care and learning needs of children. She continues to improve the experiences she offers to children even further.

p.2

The provision requires improvement

The childminder does not yet have a fully established system for planning and assessing children's learning. She is developing an understanding of what she wants children to learn, but has not yet fully developed a curriculum which is embedded in practice. She does not yet completely understand how to make connections between what children need to learn and the activities she plans to ensure that children make the progress they are capable of.

p.2

The provision requires improvement

Despite these weaknesses, the childminder has developed strong bonds with children which help them to feel safe and secure. They show that they are happy to be in her home and enjoy her joining in with their play. For example, the childminder joins in with children when they dress up. She puts a wig on, and children laugh and show pleasure at her new look. Children learn to be respectful of adults and their peers. They use manners and learn to play together cooperatively.

n The childminder does not yet have a clear understanding of what she wants children to learn. She briefly explains some things which she wants to teach children, but does not yet fully implement a curriculum which is designed to build on what children already know and can do so that they make good progress. n The childminder knows what children like to do. She is knowledgeable about what children are interested in. However, she does not yet have a planning system which focuses on the skills children need to learn next. That said, children do make some progress, which is incidental during their play. n The childminder helps children to develop some skills which support their independence, such as encouraging older children to put their own shoes and coats on when they prepare to go with her on a school run. However, she does not always promote this with all areas of children's development. For example,

She initiates conversations about exercise and describes the walks she takes children on which help them to keep their bodies healthy. n The childminder has a good understanding of how to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. She knows how to make referrals to other services and understands the importance of working with parents to provide children with the appropriate support they need. She supports children who speak English as an additional language. She works with parents to ensure that she can understand children's needs in their primary language and, as a result, children learn to speak English quickly. n The childminder has a good relationship with parents. They comment that she is caring, and children are happy to attend. They say she has supported them to put some strategies in place at home which have helped to improve children's development. n The childminder has worked hard to make improvements to her practice. She is

committed to improving her own knowledge and skills and has made links with her local adviser and other childminders to support her knowledge further. She seeks out and accesses training to ensure that she enhances her understanding and, in turn, develop the experiences she offers children.
