p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children play and learn harmoniously in the home of this devoted childminder. The childminder greets children with care and enthusiasm when they arrive at her nurturing home. Children make close friendships. They run to greet their friends as they arrive at the door and invite them to join in their play. The childminder teaches children kindness and tolerance. They take turns with resources. For example, when children role play using a cardboard box, they recognise that it is only big enough for one to step into it and wait patiently for their turn. Children use their creative imaginations to talk about going on a journey in their car to the zoo and tell the childminder which directions they are taking. The childminder enriches children's play through thoughtful questioning and repetition of key words. She teaches children how to care for the environment by recycling and explains that cardboard can be made into new boxes.

The provision is outstanding

Children are excited to venture into the childminder's stimulating outdoor environment. The childminder carries out extensive risk assessments to ensure that children are safe. She encourages them to take and manage their own risks as they travel around on balance bikes and as young children climb the steps to the slide. Children behave exceptionally well and demonstrate excellent listening skills. Before it is time to go back inside, the childminder asks children to help tidy up. They work together to collect balls that they have been playing with. Older children are keen to help, and they offer to collect the broom to sweep up. The childminder praises children for their cooperation, and they smile with pride.

n The childminder has expertly crafted a curriculum that supports each child to grow and develop through enrichment of their unique interests. She enhances their learning through skilful teaching. For instance, when children build with magnetic shapes, she enters into meaningful conversations with them about their creations. Children tell her that they are making houses. The childminder identifies that it is a small house and offers children new vocabulary, explaining that it could be a bungalow. Children demonstrate curiosity as they ask questions about what a bungalow is. Older children construct larger buildings and state that they are building a cathedral. n Children join in with interactive phonics sessions with excitement. The childminder promotes a love of language. Young children ask to look at the 'p' picture and carry out the correct action while saying the sound. The childminder embraces children's love of learning and others rush to take part in the activity.

p.2

Children identify the initial sounds in their names and smile with pride at their achievements. This means that they secure strong foundations for their future learning.

need to do better?

7 June 2024 n Children are highly motivated and have consistently positive attitudes to their play and learning. They explore and independently cut up healthy foods at snack time using safety knives. The inspirational childminder takes children to the local food hub to teach them about food waste. They explore the foods that are available and choose what they would like. Children use their senses to investigate dragon fruit. These rich experiences promote an understanding of communities and the world beyond their own. n The childminder embraces opportunities to engage children through music and song. She regularly sings with children as they play, changing the lyrics to familiar songs to enhance their learning. For example, when children play together in a cardboard box, she sings 'there were two in the box and the little one said'. Children complete the song with their own creative lyrics. The childminder joins the children as they play the piano. She sings along with the

childminder's consistent approach to communication. The childminder values parents' feedback and uses it to grow and develop her provision further. n The childminder expertly reflects on her practice and evaluates the quality of her teaching in accordance with children's growing needs and interests. She identifies areas where she can develop her teaching further and attends appropriate training to enhance her already excellent skills. The childminder has identified the need to further develop her skills in using Makaton. This enables her to support children's growing communication and language skills.
