p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home is owned and operated by a private provider. The home provides care for up to five children with social and emotional difficulties.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
At the time of this monitoring visit, there was one child living at the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Following the full inspection on 9 and 10 April 2024, this children’s home was judged to be inadequate. Ofsted issued compliance notices in relation to help and protection and the leadership and management standards and in regulation 35, behaviour management. A restriction of accommodation notice was also issued, to prevent the provider admitting any more children to the home while improvements were made. The restriction notice remains in place until 5 July 2024.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The purpose of this monitoring visit was to judge if the compliance notices had been met and the restriction of accommodation notice complied with.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The organisation is complying with the restriction notice. No children have been admitted to the home since the full inspection. One child who was living in the home experienced a positive move from the home and received good support from staff during this move. The child currently living in the home is settled and is being supported to sit her exams. This is a good achievement for the child. The child said that she liked living at the home and has good relationships with the staff.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Leaders have acted in relation to one compliance notice, under regulation 35, which has been met, and the compliance notice is lifted. There have been no incidents of physical restraint since the last inspection. The responsible individual has reviewed all incidents. This was a comprehensive review and key development areas were identified and action taken to improve matters in this area. Managers have Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC456719 2 supported staff with developmental workshops. All staff are trained in the use of restraint and in line with the organisation’s preferred model of physical intervention. Incident records now show that children and staff receive debriefs following incidents and their views, wishes and feelings are taken into consideration.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Other statutory requirements and compliance notices under regulations 12 and 13 were outside the scope of this visit and were therefore not reviewed. These will be reviewed at the next inspection. The recommendation in relation to children’s records being stored safely and securely has been met. All past children’s records have been archived and are now held by the organisation.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The home is currently being overseen by an experienced deputy manager who is supported by an experienced responsible individual. The previous manager is no longer registered, and the position has been vacant since 28 May 2024. Recruitment of a new manager has begun.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The child is involved in group meetings and specific and focused discussions take place with the child. This is an improvement since the last inspection and demonstrates that the wishes, feelings and views of the child are being fully considered.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The child’s risk assessments and support plans have been fully reviewed and improved. They are clearer and reflect the child’s changing needs and risks. The child’s education plan has not been reviewed. It did not reflect their current plan and their positive progress in sitting their exams or how staff are supporting this.
p.2
This monitoring visit
There has been significant maintenance work completed in the home. Windows have been replaced and redecoration is being carried out throughout the home. Rooms have been furnished and some damage repaired. This work is not yet complete, and some bedrooms are not suitable. The garden is overgrown in large parts. Managers have organised contractors to do the work and they have started to improve this area of the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The home has no vacancies other than that of manager. Staff are committed and passionate about the home. They spoke positively about the training and development that have taken place since the last inspection. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC456719 3
