p.1

The provision is good

The childminder and the young children in her care have formed extremely close bonds. The childminder is loving and caring towards them, and children demonstrate their genuine affection for her, seeking her out for many cuddles throughout the day. They respond well to her interactions in their play and are equally confident to explore the environment and play together without adult support. This shows that children feel safe and secure in the childminder's home and are happy and settled.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder provides activities she knows the children will enjoy, such as sand and water play. She encourages them to use their senses and explore different materials. They use scoops and spades to dig, and brushes to make marks on the ground with water. Activities, such as these, help young children to develop the muscles in their hands, which are essential for future writing skills. Children have good opportunities to practise and develop their physical capabilities. Those new to walking quickly master how to climb the steps of a small slide and are proud of their achievement as they slide down. Children are beginning to show resilience. They know they must wait their turn on the slide and are encouraged to share and use their manners.

n The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of child development. She takes time to find out what children know and can do when they start and uses her good knowledge of each child's personalities and learning needs to build on their learning. This helps to prepare them for the eventual move to school. The childminder regularly assesses children's learning to ensure they are making good progress. n The childminder understands the importance of exposing children to a range of different learning opportunities in and away from the home to broaden their experiences. Children learn to socialise with others as they regularly attend children's groups. Trips to farms and local nature reserves help them to learn about animals and the natural world around them. n The childminder helps children to develop their early communication and language skills. Children are beginning to show a keen interest in books and

singing. The childminder ensures they read books together every day. Children initiate the actions to their favourite rhymes and songs when they want the childminder to sing and complete the actions with them. This makes them laugh and squeal with excitement. n The childminder sensitively supports children with their intimate care routines. She seeks children's consent to meet their needs, such as nappy changes and help with wiping their nose. Children are gaining increasing confidence to do

They are encouraged by the childminder to take off their own shoes and wipe their hands and face at mealtimes. n Positive, friendly relationships have been built with all parents. The childminder ensures she keeps them informed of their children's daily activities and the progress they are making through daily conversations and photographs she shares. Parents appreciate the clean, organised environment the childminder provides and how warm and welcoming she is towards all families. n The childminder ensures that any required training, such as safeguarding and paediatric first aid, is completed and refreshed in a timely manner. However, the childminder does not consistently seek other professional development opportunities to update her knowledge and skills in childcare and help raise the quality of teaching to the highest level.
