The provision is good
Children show they are happy and feel safe in the care of this kind and caring childminder. Children enjoy the activities on offer. They demonstrate that the childminder is important to them through the close relationships they have with her. The childminder provides an exciting curriculum for the children to enjoy. Overall, all ages of children become engaged in group play activities. They have fun as they explore with sensory materials, such as water, oats and dough. However, at times, younger children do not make choices about their play and are not always encouraged to become fully involved in planned adult-led activities. Nevertheless, these children enjoy cuddles and attention from the childminder.

The provision is good
The childminder praises children's efforts and good behaviour well as they help to tidy up, share and take turns. Children know the routines and, overall, they are given some nice opportunities to make independent choices, for example what creative activity they would like to do. The childminder ensures that children have opportunities to socialise with others. For example, she takes children out in the community, where they meet up with other childminders and children to play at the local parks and enjoy walks and exploration as they visit the woods. This helps children to learn about the world around them and develop their social and physical skills.

need to do better?
n The childminder has good relationships with the children and understands where they need support. She uses what she knows about them to plan and provide a broad range of activities to help support their learning. The childminder adapts her teaching skilfully to maximise learning. For example, as the children play with toy vehicles, she talks to them about road safety and what the traffic lights mean. This helps children to learn about keeping themselves safe. n The childminder understands the curriculum well. She interweaves the areas of learning purposefully to reinforce children's development. For example, when children play with the tea set and play food, the childminder talks to them about healthy meals and builds on children's mathematical knowledge by discussing colours, numbers and sizes. n The childminder consistently introduces new vocabulary during play. For example, she introduces words such as 'aubergine'. Children have many

opportunities to develop their listening and attention skills as the childminder engages children in conversations and asks a good amount of questions. However, during activities where children are naming animals and say the words incorrectly, the childminder does not always repeat the words so that they can hear the correct pronunciation. n The childminder teaches the children to be kind and considerate to others. For example, children are taught about a range of festivals and cultures. They particularly enjoy creating different decorations associated with these, which supports their creative development. n Children benefit from regular fresh air and exercise. They have many opportunities to move their bodies in different ways as they play, explore and dance to songs and rhymes. The childminder recognises the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle and good oral health and she does this successfully through regular discussions. n Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder ensures parents are kept fully informed about their child's day through verbal communication. Parents
