p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager was not working at the home at the time of the visit.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The home’s registration was suspended on 20 February 2024 due to accumulative concerns around the quality of safeguarding practice and the leadership and management of the home. This visit was to monitor the compliance notices that were issued under Regulations 12 and 13, under Section 22 of the Care Standards Act 2000.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The visit found that some changes have been made to policies, procedures and practice relating to the management of whistle-blowing complaints. The provider has communicated these changes across the company.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Effort has been made to implement a system to seek and capture children’s views. All staff working at the home have been trained in the system so that they can support children to use it. Other systems, such as ‘you said, we did’, have been prepared so that they can be implemented.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff from the home have received additional training. Most of this was to refresh their existing knowledge on subjects they have already received training about. Some training has been delivered electronically, some has been face to face and some has been supported by the provider’s clinician. As the home’s registration is currently suspended, staff have been redeployed to other homes owned by the Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC424141 2 provider. This has given staff opportunities to put their additional learning into practice. Staff meet weekly at the home to consider their learning and to support them to continue to work together as a team.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The responsible individual and assistant regional manager have continued to offer specific supervision to staff while they have been working in other homes. This supervision has focused on reflection and learning. Changes have also been made to discussion topics during supervision.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Policies and procedures relating to family members working together in the home have been reviewed. Expectations have been made clear to all staff. A risk assessment has been developed to consider and mitigate risks if family members are working together in the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Systems around senior leaders’ oversight have been strengthened. This will support the responsible individual having better oversight of the day-to-day care offered to children.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The location risk assessment has been appropriately updated with relevant information that has been shared by safeguarding partners. This will support staff to understand the risks present in the area when considering children moving into the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The steps in the compliance notices relating to Regulations 12 and 13 are met. The other requirements raised at previous inspections were not explored during this visit. Therefore, they have been carried forward to be reviewed at the next inspection.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Despite the steps in the compliance notice being met, concerns remain about senior leaders’ oversight of the home. Given these concerns, a further suspension notice has been served to this home. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC424141 3
