p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. The childminder knows children well. She supports their independence and confidence to do things for themselves. However, the childminder's planning for children's learning is not effective. The childminder interacts with children and engages with them in their play, which helps them to stay focused on activities. Children have opportunities to access and share books with the childminder to support their early literacy development. Although the childminder follows children's interests, she does not build on what children already know and can do. The childminder does not have a clear awareness of how to promote children's learning and development. She does not have high expectations of what children can achieve.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
While building work is ongoing at the childminder's home, there have been changes to where children play and the space they can access. The childminder does not take the appropriate action to understand, minimise and remove risks when she cannot use her home for childcare due to building work. This compromises children's safety and well-being. The childminder's lack of understanding of the requirements means she does not evaluate her provision enough to make the improvements needed to benefit children. That said, children confidently engage in conversations with the childminder and chat happily during play. The childminder encourages children to share, take turns and look after toys. She offers plenty of praise for children's efforts and achievements. This helps children to become confident and gain a good understanding of positive social interaction.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder does not reassess risk when circumstances change to ensure she identifies and addresses potential hazards. The childminder has not considered how recent building work in her home impacts on the care she provides and children's access to learning opportunities. During ongoing building work, the childminder has not been able to use her home for childcare for part of the day. She has visited friend's homes and local parks with minded children instead. This has an impact on children's safety and security. n The childminder is unclear about her duty to notify Ofsted of any changes to the premises that affect the space available and quality of childcare provided. The childminder has not notified Ofsted of building work in her home or that the garden is currently inaccessible due to renovation work. Furthermore, the childminder has not informed Ofsted of changes to the household to ensure

there is an accurate record of household members. n The childminder provides children with healthy snacks and ensures packed lunches and home-cooked meals are nutritious. Children wash their hands before eating and learn about hygiene routines. The childminder provides appropriate

She has sufficient knowledge of child protection issues and is able to show that she can recognise the signs of abuse and neglect. n The childminder has not taken steps to ensure the information she holds on children's medical needs and allergies is up to date. Although the childminder gathers information about children's allergies and medication on admission, she does not revisit this with parents to enable her to meet children's needs. The childminder does not ensure that she has access to any prescribed medication children may need should they display symptoms while in her care. This means the childminder cannot respond to children's health and well-being in a timely manner. n Children play outdoors everyday, which helps them extend their mobility and develop their physical skills. The childminder takes children to local parks and

amenities to ensure they get access to outdoor play while her own private garden is undergoing renovation. n The childminder has not identified and addressed gaps in her understanding of early childhood development. This means she does not have the knowledge required to evaluate her provision, plan effectively for children's learning and respond to their needs. This weakness was identified at previous inspections. Although children are happy and comfortable at the childminder's home, she does not implement a consistently challenging curriculum for all children.
