A new positive behaviour support plan has been created for the child. The plan is clear, concise and easy for the staff to follow. The plan supports staff in identifying the triggers for the child. It includes clear strategies for staff to follow if the child moves away from the baseline of expected behaviour. This plan provides staff with guidance on post-crisis support for the child. This is helping the child to be more settled in the home.

Parents speak positively about the quality of care provided to their child. They say they feel that their child is safe in the home. The child’s time with their family is a positive experience because this is facilitated in a natural and relaxed way.

This monitoring visit
The manager has spoken to the staff about the importance of keeping up-to-date and accurate records when safeguarding children. Accidents and self-injurious behaviours are now clearly recorded. The manager reviews all incident documents and sends them back to staff requesting further details when these are required. This benefits the child as it provides a better understanding of what is happening for the child and how the staff can best support them.
p.2
This monitoring visit
There is evidence of increased management oversight of key documents relating to the child. This oversight can be seen across risk assessments, handover logs and incident records. The use of physical intervention is clearly recorded and in line with regulations. The manager has conversations with staff and spends time with the child after such measures are used. This helps the manager to understand what has happened and what could be done differently to reduce the risk of future incidents.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Monthly management monitoring tools are in their infancy. These tools are successful in identifying some shortfalls. However, the shortfall regarding the condition of the home was not identified. The home looks tired, unclean and in need of redecoration in some rooms. The manager openly and honestly explained that the monitoring tools are still in the development stages and some changes need to be made.

This monitoring visit
The requirements under Regulations 33 and 44 could not be evidenced during this visit. They have been restated. A new requirement under Regulation 6 is raised in respect of the condition of the home. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2712049 3
