p.1

The provision is good

Children are very settled and secure and enjoy their day with the childminder. She builds close bonds with the children to support their emotional well-being and provides plenty of cuddles when children need some reassurance. The childminder works with a co-childminder and assistants. They work well together and separate the children into two age groups. The childminder focuses on the care of the children aged over two years and the co-childminder cares for children aged under two years. However, the childminder knows all the children's individual needs well. She ensures that she has information about each child's development before they start and offers a gradual settling-in time to enable children and parents to get to know her setting. The childminder asks parents to provide a family photo when they start, which is displayed for their child. This enhances the settling in and supports children to feel valued.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how young children learn and develop. She plans her curriculum based around various events and celebrations in the world. She provides activities that are fun and ignite children's interests. For example, the childminder introduced children to international dance day. This supports children's awareness of similarities and differences in the wider world as they learn about different traditional dances.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is a positive role model who supports children to develop their awareness of being kind and considerate to each other. Children's behaviour is good and they share and take turns. They show good manners and care for each other well. Older children are very loving to the babies and enjoy helping the childminder care for them.

n The childminder focuses on children's communication and language development. Children take part in daily circle time and join in singing their 'Good morning' song as the childminder plays her guitar. They enjoy using wooden sticks, where they begin to learn about rhythm as they bang the sticks to the beat of the song. n The childminder makes excellent use of books to support her teaching skills. She researches to find appropriate storybooks that will help introduce topics to the children. Children thoroughly enjoy listening to a story about a penguin wishing he could dance. Children use vocabulary such as 'pirouette' when they talk about what dances they like to do. n Children have great opportunities for physical play and exercise. They enjoy taking part in a yoga session. The childminder is enthusiastic and creative in how she teaches the yoga. She uses a role-play approach, involving the children in

29 April 2024 reaching up, bending and stretching as they pretend to pack their suitcases to go on holiday. This really captures their attention in a fun way. n The childminder has a very well-equipped garden and there is great emphasis on children planting and growing vegetables and learning about how to care for these crops. They also have many opportunities for visits in the local community and parks. This supports children to further their investigation and exploratory knowledge in the outdoor environment well. n The childminder works very well with her co-childminder and assistants. She is aware of ensuring that all adults have suitability checks completed before starting work. Together, they regularly meet and discuss what is working well and what could be done differently. The childminder is very active in seeking out relevant training courses. This keeps her up to date with any changes in legislation and enhances her teaching skills. The childminder recently attended

training on supervised toothbrushing and has successfully introduced this into the children's daily routines. This supports children's good oral health. n Overall, the childminder has a good knowledge of each child's development and their next steps. However, on occasions, she does not focus precisely on younger or quieter children's needs as they play and, consequently, they do not always become as involved as they could be. n Partnership with parents is strong. Parental comments indicate that they are extremely happy with the care their children receive. Comments include that their children 'leap out of their arms' when they arrive, showing that they are comfortable in the childminder's care. The childminder provides regular newsletters and updates to parents on their children's progress, and they work well together so children have consistent learning at home and at the setting. n The childminder promotes children's good health very well. She provides home-

cooked nutritious meals and regular snacks of fruit or vegetables. Children show a very good awareness of how to take care of themselves. They are independent in toileting and know to wash their hands at appropriate times. They are very able to feed themselves and know if they need more food or if they have had enough to eat. n Children demonstrate good behaviours and attitudes to learning. They treat the toys and books with respect and help to tidy up, so keeping the environment safe from any tripping hazards. The childminder provides lots of praise when children share and take turns, which helps to develop their self-esteem.
