p.1
The provision is inadequate
Some action is taken when allegations against staff are received. However, leaders have not recently followed the correct reporting procedures. In addition, the safeguarding record for this incident does not contain all relevant information. These weaknesses impact on children's safety. There is a new staff team in place, who are in the early stages of getting to know their key children. However, the effectiveness of this is compromised as leaders have not yet shared key information with them about all of the children. Therefore, some children do not receive the consistency they require in their care and/or learning. Although leaders have developed a curriculum which covers all areas of learning, staff do not yet fully implement this in practice. For example, they do not provide all children with enough opportunities to engage in meaningful or stimulating learning experiences. Consequently, some children spend periods of time wandering around. The support

in place for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is not consistent. This is because some children receive minimal interaction or support from staff. These weaknesses impact on children's ability to fully thrive in the nursery.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Despite this, children behave well. Staff talk to the children about their actions and often praise them for what they do. This helps children to learn what is expected of them. Some children enjoy sensory activities, such as sand play. They use their hands to fill and empty containers. Some older children enjoy playing in the playhouse outside with their peers. They smile and laugh together. In addition, babies have lots of space to practise crawling as they move around the environment.

need to do better?
n Leaders have not followed the correct reporting procedures when dealing with a recent allegation. In addition, safeguarding records are not robust as they do not contain key information. Leaders also demonstrate a lack of knowledge of what is reportable to Ofsted. These weaknesses compromise children's safety. n Leaders have placed focus on recruiting a new staff team across the nursery since the last inspection. Due to the limited time the team have been working together, leaders have not yet been able to effectively tackle the weaknesses raised at the last inspection. Consequently, there continues to be weaknesses around the overall quality of the nursery. n Leaders are beginning to support staff to understand some parts of the curriculum. However, some staff do not yet have a clear enough understanding of the curriculum or their key children. Staff state that they are still finding out about the children's interests, needs and development. Therefore, the occasional

29 April 2024 effectively build on what they already know and can do. n The support in place for children with SEND is inconsistent. Some staff do not fully implement targets that are set from other professionals. As a result, some children with SEND are left for periods of time without adult interaction or support. n The nursery is meeting the correct staff-to-child ratio requirements. However, there are times when leaders do not deploy staff effectively to provide each child with the right level of care and support they require. Despite this, staff supervise the children well as they use the toilet, during mealtimes and as they sleep. n Parents generally speak highly about the nursery. Some explain that they are starting to see improvements with the types of activities on offer to their children. Staff provide parents with daily feedback about their child's day, and offer suggestions for how they can support their child at home. Leaders provide

parents with books and stories they can take home to read with their child. n The team speak positively about how leaders promote staff well-being. They state that they feel confident to reach out to leaders to raise concerns or to request support. Leaders have secure knowledge of what effective supervision should include in their discussions with staff about their practice. n Leaders have sound knowledge of how to prevent the spread of contagious illnesses. This includes following certain exclusion guidelines for both staff and children. Staff are trained in paediatric first aid. n Staff have secure knowledge of the procedures to follow in the event that a child suffers an accident and/or incident at the nursery. This includes administering first aid and informing parents. They keep effective records of any accidents that may occur. n Leaders and staff state that they would challenge any discriminatory practice.
p.3
need to do better?
Staff plan events to help children celebrate a range of festivals. They use this to talk to the children about one another's differences. This helps children to start to understand the wider world. n Recruitment procedures check that staff are suitable to work with children. Leaders take steps to ensure anyone whose suitability has not been checked does not work unsupervised with the children. They have sound knowledge of confidentiality. There are rooms available that leaders use to have sensitive and confidential discussions with staff and/or parents.
