Information about this inspection
the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to The Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child has positive relationships with the staff team. Staff know the child well. They invest time in the child and place the child’s needs at the centre of their practice. This supports the child to feel a sense of permanence and belonging.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When the child has struggled to manage their feelings safely, the child has asked for support from staff. Staff have responded using their skills, knowledge and implemented strategies identified within the child’s behaviour support plan. This demonstrates that the child trusts staff when they are feeling unsafe.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
A detailed risk assessment is in place. This sets out actions staff need to take to ensure that the child is safe. Staff understand the plans and put them into practice. New risks are identified and understood. The child has contributed to this and understands actions staff will take, such as maintaining contact when the child is spending time with friends away from the home. This supports the child to feel safe.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child has been out of education for a significant period. Managers and staff understand the barriers to learning and have identified additional educational activities for the child, such as attending at a stable and beginning horse-riding lessons. Alongside this, a tutor attends at the home to complete academic study. As a result, the child is making some progress from their starting point.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager has put in place training and development to ensure that staff are aware of whistle-blowing procedures. This means that, should there be any concern regarding the safety of a child, staff can confidently use this process.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff are receiving regular practice-related supervision and said that they feel supported by the manager and deputy manager. Staff said they are confident in their role and regular team meetings have provided opportunities to reflect and develop practice.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager has put in place clear monitoring processes to review the progress that the child is making. The manager has effective relationships with professionals involved in the child’s plan, such as virtual school heads. This has resulted in alternative plans being put in place to address the child’s education. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2509381 3
