p.1

The provision is good

Children show that they are happy and confident. They benefit from the consistently positive interactions and high expectations of the childminder and her co-childminder. The childminder and her co-childminder speak with children about important people in their lives and prepare children emotionally for changes in their circumstances. Children are confident to discuss what they experience when away from the childminder's home.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder and her co-childminder give strong encouragement to children to do things for themselves. Children are keen to help their friends, such as when they help to set up the table before eating. The childminder reads stories to support discussions with children about routines at home, such as toothbrushing. Children quickly learn how to manage tasks such as doing up zips. They skilfully put on waterproof boots, ready for outdoor play.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder and her co-childminder use what they know about children to plan interesting activities that build on what children know. Children become independent learners who are eager to have a go, and they acquire good social skills. This prepares them well for future learning.

n The childminder and her co-childminder provide a warm and welcoming service. They communicate with each other well and successfully implement plans for further development. For example, they organise an effective learning environment for the garden cabin now used to care for children. The childminder completes training that helps her to promote children's welfare and keep them safe. n The childminder has a calm and gentle approach. She promotes a two-way flow of information with parents alongside her co-childminder. This helps them to learn about the experiences of children when they are away from the setting. Communication with other settings that children attend is less effective. Despite this, the childminder and her co-childminder are ambitious for children and provide a good quality of education. n The childminder understands how to provide sequenced learning opportunities for children. For example, the childminder builds traditional storytelling into

outdoor play. Children pretend to cross a wooden bridge like the 'Three Billy Goats Gruff'. They begin to understand number sequences as they jump off from wooden stumps. This contributes to children's early literacy and mathematical awareness. n The childminder and her co-childminder help children to develop their speaking skills, for example during circle time. Children hold back-and-forth conversations

15 March 2024 as they speak about eagerly awaited birthday parties. Children demonstrate good communication and language skills. However, the childminder does not provide consistent opportunities for them to extend their vocabulary and learn new words. n The childminder and her co-childminder support parents to borrow books to read with children at home. The childminder redirects children's attention appropriately when they begin to lose interest during activities. This helps children to engage well in learning, including when at home, and contributes well to the good progress that they make from their starting points. n The childminder and her co-childminder interact with children respectfully and help children to understand the needs of others. Children sit and listen attentively during story time. They learn how to manage their own safety, inside and when playing outdoors. Children confidently interact with unfamiliar adults,

for example as they show off yoga poses. Children behave well. n The childminder and her co-childminder plan activities that support children to acknowledge cultural events, such as Chinese New Year or St Patrick's Day. This helps children to begin to understand and respect the similarities and differences between themselves and others. n Parents provide very positive feedback about the service they receive. They value the creative activities, opportunities for outdoor play and local outings that their children enjoy. Parents notice the progress that their children have made and appreciate the advice that the childminder and co-childminder provide to support children's home routines and good health.
