p.1
The provision is good
The childminder has a warm approachable manner, and young children are settled in her care. Children have plenty of space to play and rest, and there is a relaxed and happy atmosphere. The childminder has a good understanding of how young children learn, and her settling-in procedures are very effective. She pays close attention to supporting children's emotional needs and monitors the progress they make carefully. The childminder reflects on the curriculum she offers to ensure that she meets children's individual needs and interests. Babies show high levels of confidence as they explore using all their senses. They thoroughly enjoy investigating different sounds and textures. For example, they tap, bang, and shake musical instruments with their hands and then show fascination at the sounds they create.
p.2
The provision is good
Babies are making good progress in their communication and language. The childminder consistently provides commentary about what the children are doing and seeing. She names toys and models the use of language appropriately. The childminder also encourages children's imaginative play. Babies enjoy role play. They mimic the childminder's actions, such as drinking tea from cups and using the play kitchen, while also exploring different textures. For instance, children play with real fruits and vegetables in a shopping trolley and shakers made with pasta, rice, and lentils. Through such activities, children develop their vocabulary, listening skills, and awareness of their senses and body.

need to do better?
n The childminder follows a curriculum that is ambitious and tailored to the children's individual learning needs. She carries out frequent observations and provides clear guidance on what she expects the children to learn next. Based on her observations, she plans engaging activities that stimulate and inspire the children to learn and make good progress in all areas of the curriculum. n Babies are able to concentrate well and become deeply involved in their chosen activities. They enjoy exploring books on their own and with the childminder. They show a great interest in learning and actively engage with the childminder. However, there are instances when the childminder interrupts the children's play by introducing toys and materials that are not related to what they are doing, which causes them to lose focus. n Children develop positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle from a young age. They experience daily outdoor play, which contributes to their physical

12 April 2024 relationships with her own children. The childminder is attentive and caring, and provides comfort and cuddles whenever children need them, which effectively promotes their emotional well-being. n Young children develop good confidence and resilience when they are provided with age-appropriate instructions by the childminder. This is because childminder offers lots of consistent praise and encouragement. For instance, she stays close to the children, plays next to them, and maintains direct eye contact when explaining instructions and modelling behaviours. These actions help her to gain young children's attention and support their listening skills. n Parents speak highly of the childminder. They say that she is caring and gets to know their children very well. They appreciate the childminder's good communication and regular updates, which support their children's learning at home. n Babies make choices that help to support their early independence and gain

necessary skills for future learning. They are confident to use the resources they want to play with, such as sorting magnetic shapes and accessing wheeled toys. Regular visits within the local community help children to learn about the wider world. For instance, children visit local playgroups and parks, and they make regular weekly visits to the library. n The childminder evaluates the quality of her provision and values the views of parents and early years professionals. She networks effectively with other childminders and completes mandatory training. However, she does not focus sufficiently on raising the quality of her teaching even further when planning her professional development.
