The provision is good
The childminder has a caring manner and makes children feel welcome and happy in her home. Young children enjoy a cuddle with her and seek her out to share their experiences or invite her into their play. She knows children well, and closely provides for their individual care needs. New children settle well with the considerate support that the childminder provides for them. Children quickly form close and beneficial relationships with her. Their confidence grows, and they readily select resources themselves or ask the childminder for things they want.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder is experienced and knows how children learn. She thinks about what skills children need to acquire next and helps them make good progress. Children develop their dexterity and coordination. They enjoy making marks with different materials. They explore how crayons work on paper or pieces of wood. They know how to use technology and marvel as they create rainbow-coloured marks on a drawing tablet. Older children build towers with magnetic pieces, confidently discussing their ideas and plans. The childminder supports them to solve any problems they encounter. In this way, older children are challenged suitably, and thoughtfully adjust the base of their design. It is sturdier and they are pleased with their success. They show positive attitudes to learning and developing their skills.

need to do better?
n Children's communication develops well, including those who speak more than one language. The childminder rephrases and models words clearly and asks children questions. This offers children speech to copy and encourages them to name items and take turns in conversation. She builds their confidence, understanding, and emerging speech effectively. n The childminder considerately helps the families that use her provision. Parents are particularly grateful for the childminder's flexibility, fitting in with their children's and family's needs. Relationships with parents are good and the childminder links closely with other settings children attend. However, occasionally she does not make the most of information that she receives from them on children's development, to feed into her plans for the children. n The childminder teaches children good hygiene practices and helps them learn to manage their own needs. She supports children's healthy lifestyles. Children

wash their hands before meals and learn to use the toilet. She reminds them to drink plenty of water and offers them nutritious meals. She also has suitable procedures and arrangements to ensure that children get the rest they need. n The childminder teaches children about behaviour expectations, offering them age-appropriate explanations to help them manage their emotions and follow boundaries in place for their safety. However, during some activities the

need to do better?
12 March 2024 childminder is not always successful in adapting her support for the varied ages of the children. The younger children become disinterested and disrupt the older children's focused play. Consequently, children's exploration and learning do not develop as much as possible. n The childminder understands her responsibility to safeguard children. She ensures her home is clean and well maintained and children are supervised closely. She has clear procedures to promote children's safety when out of her home, such as on walks in the local area and when taking them out in her car. n Children get the chance to mix with other children of a similar age and develop their social skills. The childminder meets with another childminder frequently, to jointly provide interesting activities for the children. Children go out daily with the childminder, developing their understanding of the world and their physical

n This was the first routine inspection of the setting since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
