p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2642570 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff understand children’s needs and risks. Safety and support plans give a detailed overview of children’s previous experiences and areas for support. Plans are reviewed by staff regularly. Staff are encouraged to share their experiences of how individual children are best supported.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The home is warm and welcoming. Children’s bedrooms are personalised and decorated to a good standard. All areas of the home are well maintained. This provides children with a comfortable home that they can be proud of.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff receive a range of training, including training that focuses on the specific needs of the children. This has a positive impact on staff’s knowledge and skills and the way they support children when they are struggling with their emotions. However, there are two members of staff who have not yet completed the necessary qualification in the required timescales.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff develop strong relationships with children and understand their needs. One child said, ‘I feel listened to. All the staff are nice.’ Staff support children to develop positive relationships with one another. Children enjoy activities together and individually.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff support children to express their wishes and feelings in a variety of ways. When children are struggling with their emotions, staff will help children explore these feelings and what they may be connected to. One child said that this worked well and helped her feel calm.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has good oversight of the care provided to children. Critical reflection is more evident since the last inspection. This enables staff to develop and improve their skills in providing care to children because of the reflective practice encouraged by the manager. The manager’s quality of care review evaluates the care and support given to children. However, it does not set actions for how the home is going to develop its practice. This inhibits the improvement of practice in the home. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2642570 3
