The provision is good
The childminder provides a warm, friendly and homely environment. Children feel safe and secure and thrive under the childminder's care. She listens carefully to children ideas and opinions and responds kindly and sensitively. The childminder and children have a great deal of fun together, playing familiar games and making each other laugh. For example, they enjoy playing hide and seek, where children carefully count to 10 and go to find the childminder. The childminder knows children's interests and needs extremely well. For example, she knows when to offer activity suggestions and when to follow children's lead. Children are highly confident in making decisions and remain motivated for extended periods of time.
p.2
The provision is good

She makes regular and concise observations of the children's development and uses this information to build a curriculum that supports children's next steps. This helps children make good progress. Children enjoy spending time out in the local community, visiting toddler groups, libraries and parks, where they get to build on their social and communication skills.

n The childminder is a dedicated professional who takes a proactive role in her community. She works closely with other professionals, including her early years advisor, to help evaluate the quality of the provision. She makes excellent use of the training available to her, to keep her knowledge up to date. For example, recent autism training has helped her further strengthen her confidence in supporting children's individual needs. n The childminder supports children's imaginations and creativity very well. For example, children have fun becoming a 'doctor' and checking the childminder's heart. They show the inspector their stethoscope and carefully 'write their notes'. The childminder builds on this by suggest they go to the chemist to collect the prescription they need. n The childminder uses effective strategies to support partnerships with parents. She works closely with parents to help her identify children's starting points in

Parents feel that they are 'all on the same team'. n Children develop their language skills well, overall. They enjoy lots of songs and rhymes, and talk confidently about what they are doing while they play. The childminder gets down to children's level and responds to them. However, at times, the childminder does not consistently plan opportunities to further extend children's conversations and vocabularies even further. n The childminder promotes children's independence extremely well. For instance, children make lots of choices during their play. Children show determination as they carefully put their shoes on when they go to play in the garden. They know they need to wash their hands after using the toilet, demonstrating their understanding about good hygiene practices. The childminder provides children

with plenty of time to attempt things for themselves and offers words of encouragement and support. n The childminder promotes children's healthy eating and good health. Children show enthusiasm as they prepare fruit salad for their snack time. The childminder explains to children that the fruit is 'healthy and will make them strong'. Children name the different fruits they use and proudly declare 'I can do it', as they peel their own banana. Children shows high levels of physical skill as they cut the fruits into pieces. The childminder skilfully incorporates mathematics into this activity. She shows the children what 'half' and 'quarters' look like as she cuts her banana. n The childminder provides children with an interesting and ambitious curriculum.
