p.1

The provision is good

The childminder creates an environment where children feel happy, safe, and secure. This enables children to make confident and independent choices about their learning. When children arrive at the setting, they are excited to see the childminder and their friends. The childminder provides a wide range of activities for children to choose from, including free play and planned activities. She places activities at different heights. This encourages younger children to pull themselves to stand, building their leg muscles ready for walking.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder builds on children's interests. She uses this knowledge to create activities that attract children's attention. For example, children make bracelets. They talk about the different patterns and shapes they can see and create. The childminder encourages children to revisit their knowledge of different colours. She builds on what they already know and supports their language development. Children spend long periods of time at activities.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder praises children through the day. This builds children's self-esteem and encourages them to make good choices at the setting. The childminder has strong relationships with children. She takes time to get to know them when they first start and as a result, they seek comfort from her.

need to do better?

n The childminder has good knowledge of child development. She uses this successfully to create activities that meet children's next steps in learning. When children first start at the setting, the childminder works closely with parents to establish what children already know and can do and builds on this. The childminder is aware of the intent for all her activities. However, at times children do not always understand what they are meant to do. Therefore, they do not always achieve the desired learning set out by the childminder. n Children of all ages play well together. The childminder encourages older children to support the younger babies. This develops the older children's social skills, for example, as they role-model building activities and show the babies how they put pieces together. Children thrive when given this responsibility. The childminder ensure she spends time with all aged children.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder speaks clearly to children about their behaviour and how others may feel about their actions. This helps children develop an understanding of the impact of their actions on others. However, the childminder does not use consistent routines for children to follow. This means they do not always know what to do next, which has an impact on their behaviour. n The childminder is passionate about her work with children. She demonstrates her love for supporting children's learning and development through the wide

21 February 2024 range of opportunities she gives children access to. The childminder regularly takes the children out in the local area. This gives children the chance to develop their physical development, for example, as they climb and explore the local park. Walking in the local woodland and exploring the village expands children's knowledge about the world around them. n The childminder works closely with a range of other settings and professionals. For those children who attend more than one setting, the childminder regularly communicates with practitioners. This provides children with a consistent approach to their care and education. If the childminder has development concerns about children, she seeks advice and support from the local authority. This builds on her knowledge and ensures she is meeting the needs of all children. n Parents speak highly of the childminder. They express how their children love her
