the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Ofsted conducted an assurance inspection due to a rise in notifications reporting medication errors. During the visit, managers provided evidence of improvements made to systems for medication administration and recording.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last full inspection, one child has been supported to successfully return to their family home. One child was supported on a short-term basis and one child has moved in to the home. Children feel supported and have a positive experience when moving in and out of the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children who live at this home have complex health needs. They receive highly personalised care that is tailored to meet their individual needs. The staff were observed to be intuitive and alert, and respond quickly to children who require support. Children benefit from trusting relationships that have, in many cases, been developed over several years.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There has been a strong management response to investigating the medication errors, and actions have been identified to avoid similar occurrences taking place. At the time of this inspection, these actions were just becoming embedded in practice and, therefore, it was too early to fully assess the effectiveness of the measures.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Recent training for staff has focused on supporting them with specific aspects of their roles. A staff member who completed the training said that it was very helpful and helped to increase their understanding of what is expected of them in their role.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There is a stable staff team who are committed to achieving positive outcomes for children. Staff say that they are well supported by managers and their colleagues. This helps the children to receive consistent care. Supervision sessions and team meetings are used as opportunities for reflection and staff development.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The registered manager is not currently in day-to-day charge of the home. In her absence, the practice educator, deputy manager, and operations manager are overseeing the running of the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Leaders and managers actively welcome external audits, including those conducted by the independent person. Managers continuously review these audits to identify opportunities for improvement and implement necessary changes.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Leaders and managers have taken effective action to address the shortfalls identified at the last full inspection. There have been no requirements or recommendations made during this inspection. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2620865 3
