p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2505172 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff develop positive relationships with children and have a good understanding of their social, emotional and health needs. The child living at the home said that they feel listened to and can name various staff who they feel able to talk with if they are worried or upset. The inspector observed positive, respectful and relaxed interactions between staff and the child.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff show a good knowledge and awareness of safeguarding procedures, including managing allegations and whistle-blowing processes. Risk is thoroughly assessed, and children’s individual risk assessments are kept up to date.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff are suitably qualified. They are trained in trauma-informed practice and use effective de-escalation techniques. Staff have received external training relating to missing-from-care protocols and know what action they should take if children go missing from the home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s care plans are specific to their needs. These are regularly updated to reflect risk and children’s progress. Children contribute to their own safety and support plans, which are incorporated into the home’s care plan and risk assessments. This demonstrates that children are encouraged to share their wishes and views. Managers and staff liaise promptly with the appropriate agencies in response to issues of concern.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Key-work sessions are used to offer support to children following incidents and to support their identified needs. Key-work sessions are appropriate and relevant to the risks and behaviours identified.

The home is decorated to a good standard and has a welcoming and homely feel.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staffing levels are appropriate and safer recruitment procedures are followed.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff say that they feel supported and respected by the management team. Staff receive regular supervision and say that they feel able to approach managers outside of formal supervision for advice. However, at the time of this inspection, not all supervision records were up to date and completed by managers.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The management team has been restructured and a new manager is in post.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The new manager and responsible individual are keen to develop a learning culture for the home and share a vision for continued improvement. Leaders have introduced quality assurance tools to monitor children’s progress and achievements. The use of these will further ensure that risks identified are regularly shared with all Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2505172 3 team members.
