p.1

The provision is good

The childminder has a strong and very warm relationship with the children. She often laughs, plays and jokes with the children, which they enjoy. This helps children to feel safe and emotionally secure. The childminder teaches children about respect and consideration for others. The impact of this is evident as children show a high regard for one another. For example, at mealtime, they talk about their treats and say without being prompted, 'I'm going to share these with the other children later.' Children display very good manners.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder knows that children enjoy exploring art and craft resources. During a planned activity, she helps children to make a birthday card for a special person. The childminder supports children well as they write their messages inside the card. This practice helps to develop children's emergent writing skills in readiness for school. The childminder offers children another activity, which sustains their high levels of concentration. She facilitates children's imagination as they experiment with stickers and marker pens to make their birthday crowns. As children look at themselves in the mirror, they gasp happily, 'Wow, I love my crown.' Children are very motivated learners. They show consistent positive attitudes to learning.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder continues to provide children with high-quality care and education. She seeks the views of parents and children to help reflect on her practice. Parents explain in their written feedback that the childminder communicates very well with them. They praise the childminder's ability to remember every detail about the children in her care. Older children write that the childminder organises lots of enjoyable outings for them. Parents and children are full of praise for how successful the childminder plans and implements her curriculum. n The childminder observes and monitors children's learning effectively. This enables her to support children to make very good progress, particularly in their language and communication skills. The childminder uses various teaching strategies to extend children's vocabulary, such as through the use of effective questioning. In addition, the childminder reads frequently with the children and

encourages them to share their thoughts and views. As a result, children become confident speakers. n Since the last inspection, the childminder has reviewed the curriculum for mathematics. She incorporates mathematical concepts and numbers throughout the activities. For example, while completing jigsaw puzzles, the childminder encourages children to count in order. This gives children the confidence to practise their counting skills.

need to do better?

1 February 2024 n The childminder is good at promoting children's health and physical development. For instance, she encourages children to have fresh air and play outdoors regularly. Children learn to use large and small equipment with control, particularly when they play basketball. The childminder also teaches children to be independent learners, such as by taking responsibilities for their own personal needs. n The childminder shares relevant information regarding children's learning and development with other settings that they attend. For example, she knows to reinforce the teaching of letters and sounds to promote children's early literacy skills. This benefits children well because of the consistent approach to their education and care. n The childminder is fully aware of the indicators of abuse, including if children are being exposed to extremist views or exploited by gang members. She is knowledgeable about the procedures to follow in the event of a concern about

any aspect of children's welfare. There are appropriate procedures to follow should there be an allegation made against her or her household members. n The childminder completes statutory training, such as safeguarding and first aid, to ensure that children are safe in her care. However, she has not fully considered how to further enhance her good teaching to the highest level. n The childminder supervises children well. She makes her behavioural expectations clear and reinforces these consistently. For example, the childminder reminds children to sit down while having their food and explains the possible consequences of their actions. Children pay attention and listen carefully.

n This was the first routine inspection the childminder received since the COVID- 19 pandemic began. The inspector discussed the impact of the pandemic with the childminder and has taken that into account in their evaluation of the setting. n Parents and older children left written feedback, which was taken into account. n The childminder showed the inspector around the setting and explained how she implements her curriculum. She carried out a joint observation of a planned activity with the inspector and evaluated the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and children, inside and outside. She engaged with the children at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector spoke with the childminder about her setting and safeguarding matters. She looked at a sample of the childminder's documentation, including suitability checks and training certificates.
