p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC482548 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Following changes to practice implemented by the manager, and improved management monitoring and oversight, the quality of care provided to children has improved.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children speak very positively about living at the home. They say that there is nothing they would change and that they can speak to adults working in the home if they have any worries or concerns. Adults provide children with safe opportunities to discuss the things that matter most to them and help them to make sense of their feelings and emotions.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Adults understand and implement children’s care and support plans, which are written in collaboration with children. As a result, adults look after children in line with their preferences and help them to achieve their goals.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

All recent reports and assessments about children carried out by external professionals have been thoroughly reviewed. Findings have been collated by children’s case managers and discussed in team meetings. This has helped adults to have a better understanding of children’s early life experiences, strengths and vulnerabilities. As a result, adults are working more therapeutically with children, and they are helping children to have a better understanding of themselves. There has been a positive impact on children’s progress and experiences.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Adults provide a good level of support to improve children’s health outcomes. When children need professional support to meet their physical and mental health needs, managers proactively advocate for them to receive this without delay.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Adults understand that building and maintaining positive relationships with children are key to helping children to become increasingly safe. This is underpinned by clear written information that describes the actions that adults need to take to reduce risks.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Managers recognise the importance of learning from safeguarding incidents. They have thorough and meaningful debriefs with the children and adults involved. They ensure that learning is shared with the wider staff team. This approach reduces the risk of reoccurrence.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children and adults speak very positively about the impact that the manager has on the home. One adult said that they feel empowered by the manager’s calm presence and consistent approach. There have been no police call-outs to manage children’s behaviour since the last inspection. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC482548 3 Senior leaders are in the process of recruiting to fill care staff vacancies. In the interim, to avoid the use of agency staff, managers fill gaps on the rota themselves or by offering overtime to adults who work in the home. One child told the inspector how much they appreciate being looking after only by adults who know them well.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager welcomes feedback from external sources. Criticisms and comments about the service are seen as an opportunity to learn, reflect and improve. All the requirements and recommendations made at the last inspection have been met. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC482548 4
