the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff have built trusting and secure relationships with the child. For example, if the child feels unsafe while out in the community without staff, they will contact the staff for help and support. This demonstrates that the child feels confident that staff will help to keep them safe.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager and staff work with external professionals, including the social worker and complex safeguarding team, to ensure that specialist support is available for the child when needed.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff understand the child’s individual risks. These are detailed in dedicated plans which give clear information, guidance and strategies for staff to follow. Plans are frequently updated, and staff consistently follow the procedures detailed in them.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When the child has been missing from the home, staff have taken appropriate action to locate them and return them to the home as quickly as possible. Reports are completed which detail the steps that staff have taken and confirm that all relevant professionals have been notified. The manager’s oversight is included on reports. However, the manager does not reflect on what went well and where protocols for the staff team could be strengthened.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Direct-work sessions are frequent and cover topics that are relevant to the child’s individual needs and vulnerabilities. Overall, this is conversational and takes place with the whole staff team. However, when needed, it takes place in response to a significant event and is targeted to a specific topic.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There has been an improvement in the quality of training since the last inspection. Several face-to-face training sessions have taken place in subjects such as behaviour management, safeguarding and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The manager has identified and planned further training which will benefit the staff team.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last inspection, a suitably experienced registered manager has commenced in post. The manager and the deputy manager have oversight of the home, which enables them to identify strengths and weaknesses of the home. The manager has developed a clear action plan to meet the requirements and recommendations set at the last inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There have been improvements to the home environment since the last inspection. The home has been redecorated and the addition of pictures and photos has given the house a welcoming and homely feel. In addition, the quality of care review report has been produced and sent to Ofsted within the necessary time frame. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC456539 3
