Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC457435 2 Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC457435 3

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, safeguarding incidents have been managed well. All safeguarding agencies, including Ofsted, have been notified of these incidents without delay and as required. This has allowed the safeguarding agencies and Ofsted to take the appropriate steps to ensure that the safety of the children is prioritised.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

Children’s safety and welfare are at the forefront of the manager and staff’s actions. Children’s individual risks are understood and managed well by the staff, who follow the children’s detailed risk assessments that are reviewed regularly.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

Allegations that a child has made have been acted on quickly. The registered manager and staff took immediate action to safeguard the child. The staff provided the child with emotional support to reassure them that they had done the right thing. The registered manager has reviewed the provider’s policies. This ensures that the staff are knowledgeable about any potential risks and have clear guidance on the strategies that they must use to promote the children’s well-being and safety.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

The registered manager has recognised that the children do not always live together in harmony. The registered manager has worked well with the staff, who have been proactive in using disruption strategies, to prevent further relationship issues between the children. Increased staffing arrangements during these times have supported the children to engage positively in additional activities.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

Despite staff vacancies, additional gaps in staffing due to a member of staff being suspended and the impact of needing increased staffing levels, a regular staff team from the home continues to care for both children. This decision has ensured consistency of care and maintained the relationships that have been built up with the children.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

Safe recruitment processes are in place. The registered manager assures herself that relevant checks are completed before staff work with the children, which includes delaying some members of staff in starting their role if checks have not been finalised. This helps to reduce the potential risk of harm to children.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

Considerable progress has been made in the home to make it a welcoming and homely environment for the children to live in. Outside of the home, the children participate in several interesting activities that reflect their interests. The staff capture these moments in the children’s consultation booklets so that the children can look back at their time spent in this home. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC457435 4 At the last inspection, Ofsted raised two requirements and one recommendation. The registered manager has progressed an action plan to address the requirements in full and to address the recommendation, and all three have been met.
