p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC456798 2

p.1

Outcome from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The child said that they like their home and feel safe living there. They said, ‘The best thing about my home is the staff team, they’re amazing.’

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff develop individualised care plans for the child. However, the registered manager does not effectively challenge the child’s local authority when plans are not up to date. This affects care planning and could impact on the child’s progress.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The child’s artwork and photos adorn some walls in the home. However, other areas of the home look tired and require improvement to make the home more welcoming and homely.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff help the child to develop independent living skills. The child regularly cooks meals and is making progress with shopping, cleaning and their personal care.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has improved multi-agency working and there are strong relationships between agencies. As a result, the child is now making progress with their health and education needs.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff complete regular direct work with the child using an informal approach. The child also engages well with therapeutic support. This helps the child to regulate their emotions and, consequently, there have been no safeguarding incidents for several months.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff detail the child’s vulnerabilities in their risk management plan. This helps staff to follow a consistent approach to keep the child safe. However, the plan contains historic information, which is no longer relevant to the child.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

There have not been any missing-from-home incidents. However, staff know what action to take if the child is missing from home and follow an agreed protocol so that their response is consistent across the team.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager consults with the child and their parents on a regular basis. This helps the manager to make fully informed decisions about the child’s care.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff said that they feel supported by the manager. They attend regular supervision and team meetings, where they have opportunities to reflect on the child’s progress. They also attend regular training in line with the child’s needs. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC456798 3 The registered manager has not taken sufficient action to meet a requirement from the previous inspection, and this is restated.
