Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 2731922 1 Registered provider: Nestlings Care Limited

p.1

Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children's home

This home is owned and operated by a private organisation. It is registered to provide care for up to three children who may experience social and emotional difficulties, and/or may have a learning disability.

p.1

Information about this children's home

The manager registered with Ofsted in July 2023.

p.1

Information about this children's home

At the time of the inspection, two children were living in the home.

p.1

Information about this children's home

Date of last inspection: 27 November 2023

p.1

This monitoring visit

During a full inspection on 27 and 28 November 2023 the home was judged inadequate. Inspectors identified significant shortfalls in safeguarding practice and the leadership and management at the home. Following the inspection, two compliance notices were issued under Section 22a of the Care Standards Act 2000. These relate to regulation 12 (the protection of children standard) and regulation 13 (the leadership and management standard)

p.1

This monitoring visit

The purpose of this visit was to monitor and review actions taken by the provider to meet the compliance notice relating to regulation 13. Inspectors found that the provider has not taken sufficient action to meet the compliance notice.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Since the last inspection, managers from within the company have supported the staff team working at the home. One operations manager is now based in the home alongside a new deputy manager. Recruitment for an interim manager is ongoing. The management arrangements are in their infancy, and the roles and responsibilities of the managers remain unclear. This has impacted on children’s overall experiences, progress and safety. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 2731922 2 Management oversight of children’s care records and significant incidents is inconsistent. This means that managers and staff cannot always identify and act on shortfalls to improve the quality of care they provide for children. Furthermore, several documents and records relating to children’s care are missing, including records of recent room searches.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Leaders and managers do not ensure that all staff have the skills to identify and act on any signs that the children may be at risk of harm. Not all staff have completed training in relation to children’s individual needs, for example, Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA), the use of ligatures and first aid.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Since the last inspection staff from other homes within the company have joined the team. However, agency staff continue to work most days which does not ensure that children receive continuity of care.

p.2

This monitoring visit

In Ofsted’s view, the provider has not taken sufficient action to meet the compliance notice under regulation 13. A further compliance notice is issued under regulation 13, the leadership and management standard.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Requirements set at the last inspection will be considered at the next full inspection.
