Children living in this home flourish because of the nurture and care that they receive from the staff. They provide the children with care that mirrors that of a parent. This helps the children to feel valued and that they have someone who is on their side. One professional said, ‘If I could replicate the parenting in this home, then I would.’ A second professional said, ‘They [the staff] represent the care of a family home’ and ‘they [staff] care for children as a parent should.’

Children are supported to make considerable progress. This is because the staff are consistent in the care that they provide. The managers and staff all work towards the same goal and that goal is the children. The children are treated as individuals and their progress is measured from their own starting points. The staff absolutely recognise that progress looks different for different children. Successes are celebrated with the children to help them to see how far they have come. The staff are extremely proud of the children and the children know it.
p.3

The staff have high aspirations for the children. They want them to achieve their full potential in all areas of their life. One child who had no previous education data has recently passed their mock exams and has plans to go to college. A child who has moved on from the home achieved their GCSE’s and secured a place in college. One education professional said, ‘I cannot speak more highly of them [the staff], they [name of child] has missed such a significant period of education in the past. But now [name of child] is in such a strong place.’
p.3

Professionals speak extremely positively about the care and support that the children receive in this home. They are confident that the children receive the best possible care. Several professionals said, ‘They [staff] go above and beyond for the children.’ A health professional said, ‘They [staff] are helping us get further than we ever have before with them [the children].’

The staff are patience and they take their time to gain the children’s trust. The staff know that it is important that this is done at the children’s pace. There has been exceptional progress in terms of gaining the trust of two children in terms of their thoughts about food. New pots, pans, plates and cutlery have been purchased to help the children feel that they are safe to use. The staff remain consistent in their approach to them. The children are praised and encouraged when they try new foods. On days when they do not, the staff remain positive with them and reassure the children that everything is still okay. This is important as it helps the children to recognise that there are trusting and safe adults in their world.
p.3
outstanding

Children’s safety is an absolute priority to the managers and staff. Children say that they feel safe. One child said, ‘They [staff] help me to make good friendships, they [staff] point out the red flags to me.’ This helps the children to make and maintain positive friendships. This is an important skill that they can take into their adult life.
p.4

Children are supported to learn from unsafe decisions. They are taught how to take risks safely. If children make a not so positive decision, the staff spend time with them to help them to understand why situations, places or people may be a danger to them. This approach helps the children to keep themself as safe as possible. It also helps them to understand how to make safer decisions in the future. This is something that they can continue to develop as they grow into adults.
p.4
outstanding
Risks in relation to missing from home and child exploitation have significantly decreased for one child. This is because there is excellent partnership working and information sharing between the managers, staff and all relevant safeguarding agencies. The staff regularly update the children’s safety calendar with details of children’s known associates and places. Mapping exercises are regularly completed to help the staff see where and when the child is safe and when they might be unsafe. The children are kept involved and the staff speak to them about their worries and concerns.
p.4
outstanding
The staff are dedicated in their support to children so that they can remain healthy and well. All children have made progress in this area. One child presents as extremely confident, relaxed and happy in this home. They spoke affectionately about the help and care they receive from the staff. Two children have made remarkable progress when considering their starting point. They are now completing self-care tasks, keeping their bedroom clean and tidy and joining in with some activities. One child is enjoying weekly art therapy and their work can be seen displayed around the home.
p.4

The staff ensure that the children feel loved and cared for. The children are supported to understand what is happening around them. The staff have meaningful conversations with the children about important matters such as keeping safe online, calming behaviours, sexual health and more. When the children are having a difficult day, such as attending court for family proceedings, the staff prepare ‘care packages’ for them to come home to. This helps to make a difficult day feel more positive.

The manager is extremely proactive in sourcing training or resources that will help the staff provide high-quality care to the children, for example, all staff have recently received two days sign language training. This is to help them to continue to gain the trust of two children. It also shows them that the staff are supportive of their parent. The manager takes all safeguarding concerns and allegations seriously. She acts swifty to ensure that all appropriate action is taken.
