the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under The Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Outcome from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child living in the home has positive relationships with staff. This is because staff spend time with the child and know them well. The efforts of the staff to understand and meet the child’s needs, means that the child is settling in well and making progress.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Education attendance for the child is variable. Staff work closely with tutors and other educational professionals to encourage progress in small steps. In addition, staff provide informal educational activities for the child. This helps the child understand the importance of education.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child contributes to decisions made at the home. They are involved in the planning of their activities and hobbies. The child takes part in a wide variety of leisure activities such as swimming, fishing and rugby. This gives the child an opportunity to enjoy new experiences and make positive memories about their stay in the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff prepare detailed risk assessments. Staff regularly review and amend the risk assessment records as risks that affect the child change. There are clear strategies and guidance on what actions staff should take to respond to any presenting risks. This ensures that the child is safeguarded effectively.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff routinely provide the child with learning and guidance to help them understand any potential risks to their safety and how to better protect themselves. As a result, incidents continue to reduce and there have been no physical interventions since the last inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The management monitoring of the home is effective. The registered manager understands the child’s progress and staff performance. The registered manager has a strong focus on recognising the quality of care the child receives. The registered manager responds well to the external scrutiny from the independent visitor who visits the home every month. Any recommendations made following these visits are addressed quickly. This helps to drive forward the improvement plan.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff report that they feel well supported by the registered manager. They benefit from regular training, reflective supervision sessions and team meetings. The latter are used as an opportunity to share learning and improve practice. Staff speak highly of the support they receive from their colleagues and say that they feel like part of a team. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC069618 3 At the last inspection, five requirements were raised. Leaders and managers have taken sufficient action to address four of the requirements. One requirement relating to staff completing the necessary level 3 qualification within the required timescales is in progress. This requirement has therefore been restated.
