The provision requires improvement
The childminder provides a welcoming and safe environment for all children. Children are happy and settle well at the childminder's home. They develop positive relationships with the childminder and their peers. Children show that they feel secure in their surroundings. They move freely around the play area. The childminder knows children well and finds out what their interests are.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
Overall, the childminder wants children to achieve well and designs a suitable curriculum. However, there are some weaknesses in the quality of education. The childminder does not plan or deliver all activities in a way that supports children's engagement. At times, she does not sequence children's learning well, which impacts on children's ability to complete tasks independently. On these occasions, children's learning is not maximised, which hinders the progress they make.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
The childminder remains vigilant and responds consistently to children's behaviour. She helps children to understand the rules and boundaries in the setting, such as washing their hands. This leads to children behaving well and following instructions, as they know what is expected of them. In addition, children gain an understanding of how to keep themselves safe and healthy.

need to do better?
n The childminder has a clear intent for what she wants children to learn. Overall, she knows children well and identifies their next steps through observations and assessment. However, at times, the childminder does not fully consider children's levels of development while planning and delivering activities. Consequently, some children are not always fully immersed in activities. For example, children show limited engagement in group activities such as gluing and sticking. n The childminder does not support children's language and communication skills consistently well. She speaks clearly but does not fully engage children who choose to communicate less. Although the childminder introduces new words, such as 'artificial', she does not explain the meaning of them. This does not help all children to fully acquire the language skills that they need for the next stages of their learning. n Children practise their fine motor skills through activities such as mark making.
p.2

They develop some gross motor skills as they regularly explore the outdoor climbing apparatus confidently. However, the childminder does not fully support children's physical development, as she does not ensure that she has the suitable equipment and furniture to support children's comfort and development. For example, she provides tables and chairs that are too small for the ages and stages of children that attend the setting. n Children have opportunities to learn about healthy lifestyles. They eat balanced

Children practise their self-care skills as they feed themselves and pack dishes away after meals. n The childminder introduces children to some mathematical concepts. She often counts objects or encourages children to compare the size or height of different objects. This helps children to become familiar with mathematical language from a young age. n Children learn to behave well. They know to take their shoes off at the door and they listen and follow the childminder's instructions. The childminder models the behaviour she expects of children and teaches them about being caring to each other. Overall, children play with one another and share space successfully. n Children form positive and secure emotional attachments with the childminder. For example, they are confident to go to her for reassurance. The childminder takes time to get to know all children well and she understands the importance

of children's emotional well-being. n The childminder helps children to understand how to keep themselves safe online. Children gain the understanding that they need to use electronic devices under her supervision. The childminder gives advice to parents about how they can help to keep children safe when using electronic devices. n Parents speak positively about the service which the childminder provides. They comment that their children are happy to attend, and they value the childminder's verbal feedback about children's time at the setting.

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has a suitable understanding of how she can keep children safe. For example, she keeps the doors into her premises locked to prevent unauthorised people accessing the premises unattended. The childminder has a suitable knowledge and understanding of signs and symptoms that may suggest that a child has been subjected to abuse. She knows the local procedures to follow should she have any concerns about children's welfare or if an allegation is being made. The childminder ensures that she keeps her knowledge up to date by attending relevant training, such as first-aid training.
