Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC404983 1 SC404983 Registered provider: Roundhouse Care Limited

p.1

Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

This privately owned home is registered to provide care for up to two children who may experience social and/or emotional difficulties.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

There is a newly appointed manager in post who is suitably qualified and experienced. The new manager was registered with Ofsted in October 2023.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The purpose of the visit was to review the concerns raised at the previous inspections in June and August 2023 regarding:  children’s safety;  the leadership and management of the home;  staff sufficiency and training;  the environment provided for children.

p.1

This monitoring visit

At the time of this visit, there were two children living in the home. One child has been living in the home for over three years, another child has recently moved in. One child moved out in September 2023. Children are settled and have had positive experiences moving in and out of the home.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The manager has made positive changes since the last inspection. She has introduced more robust monitoring tools to review the quality of care provided to children. This means shortfalls are quickly identified and addressed. Furthermore, she is beginning to embed a more therapeutic approach. For example, consequences given to children are more restorative and educative. Children are receiving warm and nurturing care from staff. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC404983 2 The staffing levels have improved. New staff have been recruited, meaning there is less dependency on agency or temporary staff. As a result, children are receiving more consistent and stable care.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff have undertaken appropriate training to meet children’s needs. They are positive about working in the home and say they feel supported by the manager. Despite these positive changes, further improvements are required to ensure staff are recruited safely. The appropriate checks had not been carried out for one member of staff before they started working in the home. This means children have been cared for by staff who have not had all the required checks to work with children.

p.2

This monitoring visit

There has been one incident when a child has gone missing from the home. Staff actions were mostly positive. They searched for the child and worked together with external professionals, such as the police, and associates of the child to try and return them home safely. Additionally, following the child’s return, appropriate strategies were put in place to ensure their safety. However, an agency staff member did not take appropriate action and did not return the child to the home after locating them in the community. This means the child remained missing for a further 33 hours. Furthermore, the manager did not take suitable follow-up action. Therefore, there has been limited learning and reflection for the staff member or the team.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Notable improvements have been made to the home environment. For example, some areas of the home have been redecorated, which ensures a more homely feel. Additionally, new furniture has been purchased for children’s bedrooms. Despite these positive changes, further improvements are required to make sure children live in a more comfortable and nurturing environment.
