p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children have a powerful voice in this setting. The childminder is tuned into the individual needs of the children in her care. She motivates all children to be fully engaged and eager to learn. As a result, children flourish in their development. The childminder uses positive interactions with children and their families to build extremely strong bonds which support children to feel safe and thrive in her care.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder has a clear focus on teaching language skills to children. Consequently, children are extremely confident and articulate in communicating their thoughts and feelings. Children are keen to share their recent learning and new vocabulary. For example, following children's recent interest in leaves and trees, they proudly talk about coniferous, evergreen and deciduous trees and can identify these different trees when out in the community.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder also has a strong focus on developing children's skills in personal care and independence. This promotes children's self-confidence and helps to prepare them for starting school. Children demonstrate these skills, such as by taking off their outdoor shoes and putting their slippers on when they arrive. Older children show pride as they take on responsibility. For instance, they actively support younger children to join in with the daily routines.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder is clear about what she wants children to learn. She uses her assessments of children's development to inform her planning and ensures that children make excellent progress. Children are very proud of their achievements. For example, toddlers have learned to recognise the names of other children and excitedly point these out when they see them displayed on a height chart. n The childminder has a key focus on the prime areas of learning. She is aware of the importance of building up children's physical strength and stamina. She promotes this by actively choosing to walk or use public transport with children for all outings. Parents state this has greatly improved their children's confidence and independence. n Parents are kept informed of their children's progress. The childminder ensures that children receive support in their ongoing learning and development, including obtaining further support from external agencies where necessary.

p.2

need to do better?

Parents are extremely complimentary when discussing the support their children receive and describe their progress as 'phenomenal'. n The childminder has high expectations of children's behaviour. For example, she teaches children to follow routines independently and encourages them to help their friends when needed. Children consistently show these positive behaviours. For instance, they listen attentively when others are talking. Children follow the

17 November 2023 daily routines calmly, as well as responding positively to changes to routines. For example, they wait patiently at the table for their friends to finish lunch before singing happy birthday and celebrating with birthday cake. n The childminder's clear focus on promoting children's language skills is successful. Children are exceeding their developmental expectations in this area. Young toddlers are able to participate in conversations and older children confidently lead discussions around their interests. Children confidently instigate role-play games and use new vocabulary as they engage in activities which spark their interest. For example, when taking part in a fine motor activity involving tweezers, children remark on the differences between their right and left hands. n The childminder cares for children's personal needs with sensitivity and includes them in these routines. For example, toddlers select their own nappies from their

labelled baskets and bring them to the changing table. This helps children to develop independence and confidence in personal care. n During the inspection, the childminder responded to a first-aid situation swiftly and calmly, demonstrating an excellent understanding of her first-aid training. Her response ensured that all children remained calm and safe throughout the situation. n The childminder is passionate about providing high-quality early education and care. She routinely reflects on her practice and seeks out additional research, training and development opportunities. This means that her setting is constantly developing. For instance, the childminder has made improvements to support children's fine motor skills. This has resulted in children developing excellent pencil control by the time they start school.
