p.1

The provision is good

This warm and friendly childminder provides a nurturing home-from-home environment. She builds strong connections with the children, which helps them to feel safe and secure in her care. Babies and young children freely explore the playroom. They make choices about what they want to learn and do. The children select their favourite toys and books independently. They happily invite the childminder into their play. The childminder celebrates the children's achievements and provides them with meaningful praise. This helps children develop a positive attitude towards learning and high levels of confidence from a young age.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has clear intentions for children's learning. She places a high focus on developing children's communication and language skills. The childminder provides the children with a language-rich environment. She introduces new words and vocabulary through play, songs and stories. The childminder picks up on non- verbal cues and narrates to the children. She uses some words in the children's home languages. The childminder uses open-ended questions and provides young children with the time to respond. Babies and young children show confidence in communicating their wants and needs.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder offers children with a wide range of experiences to enhance their social skills and understanding of the world. She takes the children out in the local community. Children experience nature walks. They collect natural resources, notice the changes during different seasons and discover different types of wildlife. The childminder meets with other childminders and their children. They go to the library, soft play and play groups. This provides the children with opportunities to socialise in larger groups, make new friends and further develop their confidence in new places.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children make clear progress from their starting points. The childminder understands the importance of gaining information from parents, such as children's current development, likes and dislikes. She uses this knowledge to help her identify children's starting points. The childminder plans activities around their interests and the next stages of learning. She interacts with the children during their play to extend their knowledge pass what they already know. n Children enjoy participating in imaginative play. They act out daily routines, such as cooking and making cups of tea. For example, the babies play with an interactive birthday cake. They clap and pretend to blow out the 'candles'. The childminder demonstrates counting as the babies pull the 'candles' out. The children demonstrate high levels of concentration and critical thinking skills.

p.2

need to do better?

7 November 2023 They show a 'can-do' attitude as they keep trying to place the 'candles' back into the correct hole. n The childminder provides young children with sensory experiences. For example, she tapes sandwich bags filled with different materials, such as paint to the windows. This encourages the babies to stand for long periods while they explore the sensory bags with their fingers. However, on occasion, the childminder limits children's opportunities to independently explore and further enhance their senses, for example, to allow them to freely touch and feel what is inside the sensory bags. This means that young children quickly lose interest and do not engage for extended periods of time. n Children benefit from spending lots of time outdoors. The childminder helps them to strengthen their muscles by going on muddy 'welly walks' and visiting the local parks. Babies and young children climb and challenge themselves

physically in the safety of soft-play centres. They pull themselves to standing and cruise around furniture, which builds their core muscles. n The childminder has high expectations for children's behaviour. She encourages them to use their manners and to be kind to each other. Children under two years old play well alongside each other and show good social skills. They enthusiastically share their toys and sit together during stories. The childminder encourages the children to help with small tasks, such as tidying away toys and cutting their own fruit at snack time. Children become independent and show a 'can-do' attitude from a young age. n Parents praise the childminder for her settling-in process and how quickly children settle in her care. They receive daily feedback about their child's day and the activities they have enjoyed. The childminder gives parents feedback on their child's development. However, she does not do enough to enable parents

need to do better?

to continue children's learning and development at home to promote consistency.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a clear understanding of her responsibilities regarding the welfare of children. She continuously checks her home and the places she visits to ensure that they are safe for the children in her care. The childminder can identify the different signs and symptoms of abuse. She knows how to report any concerns about a child and the importance of keeping records. The childminder knows the procedure to follow if an allegation is made against herself or a member of her family. She attends regular safeguarding training to ensure that her knowledge is kept up to date.
