the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Outcome from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager has identified that the child currently living at the home requires an environment without any other child’s influence. As a result, the home is now caring for one child.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child is now more settled and is less exposed to risk. The child is no longer going missing from the home and instead chooses to spend time at home or going on planned activities in the community.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child is now looking forward to returning to their school full time.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff support the child to develop their independence. For instance, the child is learning how to cook and bake, and to make decisions about what clothes are appropriate to wear in different circumstances.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager has ensured that the child is confident to raise any worries or concerns, in the knowledge that these will be taken seriously and promptly addressed.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child is supported to stay in touch with people who are important to them.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager has ensured that risk assessments provide better details. However, when new information is received, this is not always recorded promptly. As a result, staff do not have access to the most up-to-date information to ensure that the risk assessment continues to accurately reflect the child’s level of vulnerability.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff are confident to share safeguarding concerns and know how to escalate these if required. Staff feel supported by the manager and by their colleagues. Staff can confidently explain what they would do if a child was to go missing from the home.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager has ensured that there are always sufficient staff to care for the child. This can sometimes mean using staff from the provider’s other homes to cover shifts. These staff are familiar with the child’s needs. This helps to maintain a good level of consistency of care for the child.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
An experienced and motivated deputy supports the manager. Members of staff who have less experience in residential childcare are paired up with more experienced staff and the manager ensures that all new members of staff receive regular supervision. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2591911 3 The manager has developed new and effective monitoring systems. These enable them to maintain a better oversight of the home. They are now able to identify the home’s strengths and areas for development.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff reported that they receive adequate support from their supervisor, including regular supervisions where they can reflect on their practice and professional development.
p.3
Findings from the inspection
The manager has ensured that the staff are able to access a wide range of training opportunities. Recently, this has included information on substance misuse.
p.3
