Information about this provider

Bragd LLP is an independent learning provider based in Dunfermline, Scotland. It has offered apprenticeships since September 2019.

p.1

Information about this provider

At the time of the inspection, 56 apprentices were enrolled at locations across England. Fifteen apprentices were studying level 3 safety, health and environment technician, 13 were studying level 3 information communications technician, 12 were on level 3 team leader and six were on level 3 business administrator apprenticeships. Very small numbers of apprentices were enrolled on level 3 cybersecurity technician, level 4 cybersecurity technologist, level 4 network engineer and level 3 supply chain practitioner. All apprentices were over the age of 19.

p.1

What is it like to be a learner with this provider?

Apprentices are motivated to learn. They appreciate the encouragement they receive from supportive staff. As a result, they benefit from welcoming learning environments where they feel highly valued.

p.2

What is it like to be a learner with this provider?

Apprentices develop valuable new knowledge, skills and behaviours quickly. For example, level 3 team leader apprentices keep themselves calm and lead their teams effectively. Level 3 business administrator apprentices give presentations with confidence. Apprentices apply their skills successfully in the workplace and are valued by their employers.

p.2

What is it like to be a learner with this provider?

Apprentices learn the importance of treating others with understanding and respect. They listen and value other peoples’ views. For example, level 3 team leader apprentices use their knowledge of unconscious bias to make suitable adjustments when arranging training workshops and interviews. As a result, they treat colleagues and clients equally and with respect.

p.2

What is it like to be a learner with this provider?

Although apprentices learn about the dangers and signs of radicalisation and extremism, staff do not help them apply their knowledge to the local areas where they live and work. This means that they are not sufficiently aware of the dangers present in their localities.

p.2

What is it like to be a learner with this provider?

Apprentices benefit from useful careers information when they start their apprenticeships. Staff provide apprentices with appropriate advice about careers when they request it. However, leaders do not plan a suitable programme of careers information, advice and guidance that extends beyond the information they receive at the start of the apprenticeship.

p.2

What is it like to be a learner with this provider?

Apprentices feel safe. Staff teach them how to stay safe, including when they are online. They are confident about how to report any concerns. Level 3 safety, health and environment technician apprentices ensure that they keep themselves safe on site by wearing and maintaining appropriate personal protective equipment, such as hard hats and safety boots.

p.2

better?

Leaders sequence apprentices’ training in a logical and effective order. For example, level 3 safety, health and environment technician apprentices learn the meaning of terms such as risk and hazard before learning how to implement legislation controlling hazards in the workplace. Level 3 team leader apprentices learn about management theories before they apply them to the management of projects within their own organisation. As a result, apprentices learn and securely apply new knowledge and skills in the workplace quickly.

p.2

better?

Trainers introduce new ideas effectively and ensure that apprentices can understand them well. Level 3 safety, health and environment technician apprentices use 26 to 29 September 2023

examples of risk assessments to ensure they complete risk assessment matrices accurately at work. Consequently, apprentices apply new knowledge in the workplace quickly and incorporate it into their long-term memory securely.

p.3

3

Apprentices benefit from helpful feedback that enables them to improve their work. Trainers give level 3 safety, health and environment technician apprentices detailed feedback on what they have done well and what they need to improve. Apprentices know their areas for development and can act on these swiftly.

p.3

3

Highly experienced and well-qualified trainers use their professional expertise effectively to support apprentices to develop new skills. They use their knowledge of auditing and reporting to show level 3 safety, health and environment technician apprentices how to complete fire safety audits in the workplace. This means that apprentices develop new skills quickly that are valuable in the workplace.

p.3

3

Leaders carefully assess what apprentices already know and tailor their training accordingly so that apprentices can achieve the high expectations that leaders have for them. For example, trainers set level 3 team leader apprentices realistic individual targets for their final assessments that are based on what they already know and can do. Many apprentices achieve high grades and progress quickly to promoted roles within their organisations.

p.3

3

Although leaders ensure that apprentices benefit from useful information on healthy eating and mental health at work at the start of their apprenticeship, they do not promote these topics effectively to apprentices later in their apprenticeship.

p.3

3

Leaders sensitively manage staff and take action to support their well-being effectively. For example, they frequently review their workload and meet regularly to discuss their concerns. Staff are proud to be members of the organisation and feel highly motivated by leaders.

p.3

3

Members of the governance board have suitable educational and industry experience. They have a broadly appropriate understanding of the organisation’s strengths and areas for development. As a result, they provide useful support and challenge to hold leaders to account to improve training for apprentices.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
