p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children feel extremely safe and secure in this very warm and homely setting. The childminder is tremendously caring and attentive to the needs of children. Children self-select and engage excitedly in a range of creative activities planned specifically by the childminder to reflect their personal interests. For example, children smile and clap their hands as the childminder presents a tray of ingredients to make moon rock cakes. Children delight in weighing out and measuring the different ingredients to add to their mixture. Children make excellent progress in their speaking as the childminder masterfully models, extends and builds on the language children use. As children stir and combine different ingredients together, the childminder expertly encourages them to describe the changes they see in the mixture, and children use recently learned words like 'soft', 'creamy' and 'crumbly'.

The provision is outstanding

Children thoroughly enjoy being physically active in the childminder's garden. They giggle with delight as they ride bikes and play in the sandpit. The childminder supports children to develop the knowledge and understanding needed to assist them in making healthy lifestyle choices. For example, children tell the inspector that apples and vegetables are good for them and keep them healthy and that sweets are not good for their teeth because they contain lots of sugar. The childminder is an excellent role model, and she consistently praises the children's extremely good behaviour. Children are very polite, and they consistently show care and kindness to their friends as they share, take turns and play harmoniously together.

n The childminder has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the early years framework and child development. She uses these expert skills exceptionally well to plan an imaginative and creative curriculum that successfully meets the needs of the children in her care. Children are highly engaged in their learning because the childminder plans exciting topics or themes of learning, such as exploring space, to ignite children's imagination and curiosity. n Children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), make excellent progress in all areas of their learning because accurate assessment is used precisely to identify starting points for children's learning. The childminder then meticulously observes children's play and tracks their ongoing progress and development to effectively identify and plan for children's next steps in their learning. n The childminder expertly shares books and stories with children that support

4 October 2023 the childminder as she encourages them to describe and talk about their own feelings and experiences. As a result, children are confident speakers who are able to communicate their own thoughts and opinions, and they demonstrate a strong sense of self-awareness. n The childminder effectively supports children to develop extremely high levels of independence. This prepares children well for the next stage of their learning, such as starting school. Children independently pour their own drinks of water, put on their shoes, wash their hands and prepare their own healthy snacks. For example, with precision and care, children cut their bananas and strawberries into small pieces on a chopping board before eating them at snack time. Children are consistently praised by the childminder, and they are extremely proud of their achievements. n Children develop a strong knowledge and awareness of the world around them

as they participate in a range of highly creative experiences and fun trips. These are skilfully planned by the childminder to support children to meet their next steps in their learning. For example, children enjoy participating in drama workshops and multisport events as well as going on exciting trips to places they have never been before, like the local airport. Children also relish weekly trips to local playgroups, where they have further opportunities to develop social skills and broaden peer relationships. n Parents speak very favourably and with affection about the childminder. They report that the childminder provides a friendly, homely environment. Parents feel consulted and well informed about what their children are learning each day. Parents, including those of children with SEND, are extremely happy with the progress that their children are making. n The childminder is highly proactive in seeking advice from professionals and
