Overall effectiveness Inadequate

The quality of education Inadequate Behaviour and attitudes Inadequate Personal development Inadequate Leadership and management Inadequate Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Good

p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children's safety cannot be assured. At times, they are alone with assistants who have not yet been deemed suitable by Ofsted. Furthermore, the childminder does not place enough importance on assistants having the secure knowledge of the safeguarding reporting procedures to keep children safe from the risk of harm.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not demonstrate suitable knowledge of how to minimise risk. Children are not appropriately supervised on large equipment in the garden. The childminder does not provide a clean environment or promote children's good health. Hygiene practice is poor, which compromises children's health and well- being.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder lacks an understanding of child development and how to support children's learning. Her curriculum is not appropriate for the age and stage of children in her care. The childminder and her assistant do not extend on children's language or engage in meaningful interactions to support children's learning. As a result, children sit quietly or wander for long periods of time, disengaged from any activities.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not meet children's needs. Children are unsettled and upset, as they do not get emotional support from her or her assistant. Equally, the childminder does not support children in managing their own feelings and behaviours. This does not help children to form secure attachments.

p.2

need to do better?

n The quality of the provision has declined significantly since the last inspection. The childminder does not have secure knowledge of the statutory requirements of the early years foundation stage. The childminder has failed to meet requirements by including assistants in ratio and leaving them unsupervised with children when their suitability has not yet been verified. Consequently, this exposes children to risk. n The childminder has a poor attitude to her assistants' safeguarding knowledge. Assistants have attended safeguarding training; however, they do not remember how to report any concerns they may have about children or adults. In addition, they do not know where to find this information. The childminder does not consider her responsibility in ensuring the assistants keep up to date with safeguarding procedures. As a result, assistants do not know how to act swiftly and appropriately if there are concerns about a child.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder does not remove all potential hazards from the outdoor environment. Additionally, she does not supervise children effectively to reduce the risk of harm. For example, young children are unsupervised at the top of the

4 October 2023 slide, and they can access an uncovered pool with standing water. n The childminder does not provide a clean environment or help children to learn about good hygiene practice. For example, children have nappies changed on a mat that is not cleaned between each child. In addition, the childminder does not teach children to cover their mouths when they cough as they wander around, and they can cough over their friends, adults, and over food at mealtimes. n The childminder does not plan and implement purposeful learning to build on what children already know and what they need to learn next. Children quickly lose interest in the resources available to them. The childminder does not provide alternative opportunities to support their learning. Therefore, children do not make good progress or develop a positive attitude to learning. n The childminder and assistant hardly respond when children try to communicate

with them. At times, they do engage with children. However, these interactions are irregular and lack purpose. The childminder does not model words or extend their vocabulary. Therefore, children do not receive support to help them develop their communication and language skills. n The childminder has a poor understanding of how to manage behaviour effectively. For example, children pull resources from one another and become distressed. The childminder chooses to give children more toys and move other children away. However, there is no explanation from the childminder to support children learning right from wrong. n Parents comment positively about the childminder's care for their children. They share that their children enjoy the meals the childminder makes for them. They are aware of the process to follow if they have a concern about the provision.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

Breaches to the requirements have a significant impact on children's safety and welfare. Risk assessments are not effective. The childminder fails to identify and remove hazards to provide a safe environment for children to explore. She does not always follow hygiene procedures and does not identify when children are exposed to cross-contamination. This puts children's health and safety at risk. The childminder has developed her safeguarding knowledge and knows what to do if there is an allegation made against her or an assistant. However, she does not consider her role in monitoring the assistants' safeguarding knowledge so that it is up to date.
