p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children excel and flourish in confidence as they experience a rich, varied, and well-balanced curriculum that builds on what they already know and can do. Children become accomplished communicators, eager to share their thoughts and ideas with others. Children are extremely well supported to be kind, and they show impressive levels of empathy towards each other. Older children consider the feelings of the younger ones and offer them support or comfort toys. The children enjoy taking part in trips and outings that support their excellent understanding of the world around them. Children talk at length about a bin lorry they see on a local walk. They excitedly explain what happens to materials when recycled.

The provision is outstanding

The childminder develops children's independence very well. Children choose stories to listen to and songs to sing, and they help to prepare the table ready for snack time. They enjoy cutting their own fruit up for snack and tidying up after themselves. They show real pride in doing this. There are plentiful opportunities for the children to develop their physical skills. They have access to a wide range of resources and experiences, which supports their whole-body development and coordination. The childminder puts children's likes and interests at the heart of her provision. For example, babies show a keen interest in building and knocking down towers, so the childminder ensures they are surrounded by opportunities to explore building. The childminder has photos of different buildings, which she shows to the children to inspire them as they engage in construction activities.

n The childminder gets to know her families very well. She visits children in their own homes before they start with her. This enables her to support children to develop a strong bond with her. Children settle quickly. The childminder plans carefully for the skills that she knows the children need to practise. As a result, children are rapidly gaining the skills and knowledge they need for their next stage in learning. n The childminder builds strong relationships with the children. They trust her implicitly and relish engaging with her as they play. For example, children eagerly listen to the childminder as she tells stories using toy farm animals. Children are quick to build their own imaginative stories from her ideas. Children, including those new to her setting, engage with and access learning swiftly. n The childminder maximises children's learning at every opportunity. For example, younger children show a real interest in books, exploring them

They sing number songs and excitedly show numerals on their fingers as they sing. Older children recognise and order numbers confidently as they investigate autumnal objects and number tiles. Older children sing a number song without any support and show pride in doing this as they bow in celebration of their efforts. n Children are expertly supported in developing early literacy skills. For example, when engaging in space-themed play, the childminder skilfully incorporates early writing skills as children design and build. She models challenging vocabulary, such as propel, rotate and energy. Children swiftly grasp these words and use them in their imaginative play. n The childminder has excellent relationships with the families she serves. She works closely with parents to gather a detailed understanding of children's initial

developmental levels to help her provide targeted, ambitious curriculum activities. The childminder provides parents with detailed information about how they can support children's learning at home. For example, she has provided families with picture guides for Makaton signing so parents can support this communication method at home. n The childminder promotes children's healthy living successfully. As they prepare snack together, she speaks with children about the health benefits of different fruits and vegetables. Children show real interest in this and link their knowledge and understanding with a poster promoting the merits of fruit and vegetables in a varied diet. Children benefit from the balanced, healthy lunches the childminder provides. She ensures that children regularly try new foods to extend their palate. n When the childminder identifies that a child is not meeting their expected milestones, she meets with the child's parents to discuss her concerns. from outside agencies, such as speech and language support, is sought for guidance. These swift actions support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities to make excellent progress from their starting points. Parents attribute the swift progress their children make to the childminder's excellent monitoring of any need for support. n The childminder develops children's communication and language very well.
