p.1

The provision is good

Children receive a warm welcome when they arrive at the childminder's home. They separate easily from their parents and are eager to go inside. Children develop secure and nurturing relationships with the childminder, her co-childminder and assistant. This helps them to settle quickly and to feel safe and secure. Children explore the toys and resources with confidence and enthusiasm. They happily engage with the childminder during their play and seek her out for reassuring cuddles.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has high expectations for children and wants them to achieve all that they can. She provides a vibrant and nurturing learning environment, where children gain confidence and learn to be independent. Children develop positive attitudes to learning. For instance, they are excited as they roll toy vehicles down a slope and explore how they can change speed and direction. The childminder ensures that story times are fun and enjoyable. Therefore, children develop a keen interest in books and reading.

p.2

The provision is good

Children benefit from consistent routines and boundaries, which support their understanding of good health, hygiene and behaviour. Therefore, they know what is expected of them and behave well. For example, children beam with pride when they are chosen to be a 'special helper'. They diligently carry out tasks, such as wiping the tables and serving lunch.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder is passionate about providing children with a positive start to their education. She provides a well-balanced curriculum, to prepare children for the next stage of their developmental journey. The childminder monitors children's progress closely and ensures that they receive targeted support. Therefore, children make good progress from their individual starting points. n Children are eager to explore the many resources and activities. They concentrate for long periods on the things that they enjoy. For instance, children focus intently as they use scissors to cut paper into strips and small pieces. They demonstrate their creativity, as they glue the pieces onto a large sheet of paper to create a collage. n The childminder speaks positively to children and comments on their play, which helps them to enjoy conversations and learn new words. She regularly reads and sings with children, to further enhance their language and communication skills.

p.2

need to do better?

The childminder provides extra support for children who speak English as an additional language. For instance, she uses a pictorial timetable to explain the daily routines and teach children key vocabulary. This helps all children become confident and effective communicators.

p.2

need to do better?

29 September 2023 n Children enjoy playing outdoors in the childminder's garden. They practise their large-muscle movements through activities, such as climbing and dancing, which promotes their physical strength and coordination. Children learn about the benefits of healthy eating through their discussions with the childminder. They thoroughly enjoy the nutritious meals and snacks that she and her assistant provide. n The childminder uses children's experiences outside of her setting to help her enrich the curriculum. For example, she set up a role-play airport, which allowed children to revisit and consolidate the things they had learned on their holidays. The childminder ensures that children access books and resources, which represent people of different cultures and abilities. However, she could do more to help children learn about the world, their community and other people, particularly through first-hand experiences.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children benefit from the childminder's clear explanations about rules and boundaries. This helps them to develop a sense of right and wrong and to learn social skills, such as sharing. However, the childminder has not established a consistent approach to help children identify and regulate their strong emotions. n The childminder regularly updates all mandatory training, to help her and her assistant keep children safe. She is committed to continuous professional development and understands how this helps to enhance the outcomes for children. For instance, the childminder describes how she and her co-childminder have developed the curriculum for mathematics, which has boosted children's understanding of shapes. n Parents describe the childminder's setting as a welcoming and loving environment. They feel completely at ease when leaving their children, because they are happy, safe and well cared for. Parents describe the 'hugely positive

impact' the childminder has on their children's confidence, well-being and learning.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder ensures that she and her assistant understand their safeguarding roles. She is aware of issues that may compromise children's welfare, such as the effects of radicalisation and domestic abuse. She knows how to identify signs of child abuse and understands the procedures to follow if she believes a child is at risk. The childminder and her assistant supervise children well. They assess safety in their home, to remove or reduce any risks. The childminder knows the procedures to follow if there is an allegation made against her or another adult working with children.

p.3

should:

29 September 2023 n extend further the opportunities for children to learn about the world, their community and other people, especially through first-hand experiences n develop a more consistent approach to teaching children about their feelings and emotions.

n This was the first routine inspection the provider received since the COVID-19 pandemic began. They discussed the early years curriculum and how the childminder organises her provision. n The inspector observed the quality of education and evaluated the impact on children's learning. n The childminder ensured that her documents were available for the inspector to view. This includes her paediatric first-aid certificate and liability insurance. n The inspector gathered parents' views through conversations and from written feedback.
