Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC454484 1 SC454484
p.1
Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This local authority home is registered to provide care for up to three children.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The manager registered with Ofsted in April 2023.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This home was judged inadequate at its last full inspection in July 2022. The provider met the compliance notices issued at the monitoring visit in September 2022. The provider made the decision to move the children in a planned way and closed the home in October 2022. Ofsted imposed the condition that the provider must notify Ofsted three months before they moved any children into the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The provider notified Ofsted of their intention to operate, and they requested to reduce the number of children they care for from five to three.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit took place to ensure that the home is ready to open and that it can provide care for three children.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The provider has refurbished the home and repurposed the bedrooms to make this a welcoming home with ample space for three children. At the time of the inspection, some furniture was not yet in place but was on order. The provider is clear that this will all be in place before any children move in.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The registered manager has a clear vision for the home, and she has made numerous changes to the home’s processes to allow her to have greater oversight of the home and identify areas for improvement. A well-thought-out induction for previous and new staff has helped to ensure that the staff are prepared for the children who move in. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC454484 2 The manager has built links with other professionals, including the virtual head, youth offending team and substance misuse team. They have visited the home to speak to the staff to help enhance their knowledge of their role and how to seek support for the children in their care.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Recruitment checks for agency staff are now in place with clear management oversight. This ensures that all of the agency staff are suitably appointed and their identities have been checked. The manager has ensured that new staff’s references have been full explored and verified to assure herself that staff working with the children are safe to do so. However, she has failed to consistently identify and explore all the gaps in their employment.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The manager has put in place plans to ensure that they meet the requirements made at the last inspection. However, as there have been no children in the home, these remain untested. The requirements will be repeated and reviewed at the next full inspection. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC454484 3
