This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was undertaken to assess the progress in meeting two compliance notices that were set at the previous inspection, under regulation 12, the protection of children standard, and regulation 13, the leadership and management standard. The home has a restriction notice in place preventing any more children from moving into the home. p.1
This monitoring visit
One child currently lives in the home. They are settled and are making progress. They have recently started a college course, and this has been positive for them. Online safety work has been carried out with the child to improve their knowledge and understanding of how to stay safe online, however, there is not yet enough collaborative working with the college to support a positive transition for the child. This is because the manager has not identified or assessed any risks for the child in attending college, apart from smoking.
p.1
This monitoring visit
There was a failure by a senior manager to take required actions in response to a serious safeguarding event. This led to a delay in making required referrals to external agencies to try and minimise future and further risks for children. This has Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC434806 2 since been addressed and the actions have been completed. The local authority designated officer (LADO) for safeguarding has made further recommendations around safeguarding policies and procedures. These are currently under review by senior managers.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have started to implement systems designed to improve their oversight and quality assurance of the home. There has been improved senior management support for the home, which has led to more scrutiny and a review of processes to support the home’s development. New systems and processes have yet to be embedded and tested to assess the impact for children.
p.2

Staff have benefited from additional training and guidance around child exploitation, contextual safeguarding and grooming. Staff say this training has given them more awareness and they are confident to report any concerns they may have to the manager.
p.2
This monitoring visit
All staff have regular supervision. This provides further opportunities to discuss and reflect on care practice. Team meetings provide additional learning and reflection for staff. This has helped to develop better understanding of safeguarding and staff’s responsibilities in identifying and reporting concerns. This helps to keep children safer.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staffing levels remain low and recruitment is ongoing. Staff lone work with the child, including overnight, and risk assessments are in place to manage this. The child has been consulted and a safety plan put in place to give them support in the event of an emergency or untoward event. The child’s social worker agrees with the plan.
