p.1

The provision is good

Children enjoy their time with the childminder and her assistant. Children are happy and confident in their care. The childminder and her assistant know children very well and they are attentive to children's needs. Children benefit from an interesting curriculum and the childminder helps children to continually build on the skills and knowledge they have. This helps them make good progress across all areas of their development. Children are keen to join in with the activities on offer to them. They demonstrate positive attitudes to learning.

p.2

The provision is good

During their time with the childminder, children benefit from a vast range of outdoor learning opportunities. They develop good knowledge and a deep interest in living things and the natural world. For example, they grow, harvest and eat home-grown fruit and vegetables and know about seasons and when fruits will come back into bloom.

p.2

The provision is good

Children behave well. The childminder and her assistant are good role models for children. Children have a good awareness of the rules. This helps them play together and socialise with others well. The childminder and her assistant teach children to be independent in preparation for the next stage in learning and their eventual move to school. For example, children learn to manage their own self-care by wiping their own noses and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated in hot weather.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children settle well and form secure attachments to both the childminder and her assistant. Children have a dedicated key person who gathers information about each child from parents and uses this information well to aid their settling- in process. For example, they plan activities that the child is interested in and will enjoy. n The childminder teaches children about the importance of leading healthy lifestyles. Children are physically active, eat nutritious and well-balanced snacks and meals and have plenty of time in the fresh air each day. n The childminder and her assistant enhance children's communication and language skills well. They use a range of effective techniques to help children develop their vocabularies and become confident communicators. For example, they make time for storytelling and singing throughout the daily routine to help children hear a wide range of words and to inspire and extend children's

speaking and listening skills. n Parents are complimentary about the care and education that their children receive. The childminder makes regular assessments of children's learning and development which she routinely shares with parents. This keeps parents

6 September 2023 informed about what children have been doing during the day and the new skills they are working towards. However, the childminder misses some opportunities to offer precise ideas for parents on how they can support children's learning at home to help children to make the best possible progress. n Overall, children are provided with suitable toys and resources to play with. Resources reflect the different children's ages and interests. However, occasionally when children are playing independently, access to a wider range of resources is restricted. At these times, children do not always find things that they can attend to or engage with as intently without relying on support from an adult. n The childminder and her assistant give children plenty of praise and encouragement, and they celebrate their achievements. This helps to successfully raise children's self-esteem and supports their emotional well-being.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder and her assistant are responsive to children's needs, such as when they are getting tired, need some comforting, are unwell or need a sleep, and ensure these needs are met. The childminder offers a good continuity of care for the children. For example, children bring in comfort objects and the childminder mirrors babies' individual routines from home. This helps children feel safe and secure. n The childminder and her assistant undertake regular training to ensure they sustain up-to-date knowledge and to continually enhance their teaching skills. They work well as a team and maintain good levels of professional development.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

Safeguarding children is paramount for the childminder and her assistant. The childminder and her assistant attend regular child protection and safeguarding training. They stay up to date with who to contact and how to seek advice and report any concerns about a child in their care. They have a good understanding of a wide range of signs and symptoms which may indicate a child is at risk of harm. The childminder and her assistant assess risks effectively and teach children how to keep themselves safe. For example, they learn how to safely interact with the childminder's pet dogs. Effective policies and procedures are in place and implemented well to protect children.

p.3

should:

n enhance the support offered to parents to aid them in extending children's learning at home n provide children with easier access to a wider range of activities and resources to encourage their independence and free choice in play.
