Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 1259178 1 Registered provider: Solid Global Limited
p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This home is run by a privately owned limited company. It offers care for up to two children. The home specialises in providing therapeutic care for children with mental health needs.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
There has not been a registered manager at the home for over a year. A manager was appointed in August 2022 but subsequently withdrew their application. A new manager started on 2 May 2023 and submitted their application to register with Ofsted on 28 July 2023.
p.1
This monitoring visit
At the full inspection on 13 and 14 June 2023, the home was judged inadequate. One compliance notice was issued, under regulation 12.
p.1
This monitoring visit
A monitoring visit took place on 18 July 2023 and the inspector found that the compliance notice had not been met. Ofsted is in the process of taking higher enforcement action with the provider, which the provider can appeal.
p.1
This monitoring visit
One child remains living at the home at the time of the inspection.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit was primarily to ensure that the child had appropriate facilities in the home. The inspector found that the child has a new bed to sleep in and appropriate bedroom furniture. The child’s bedroom was clean and tidy.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since the monitoring visit, the child has experienced a period of relative calm, which is positive. The child has enjoyed baking with staff, watching movies and going on outings to the park. There have been no incidents when physical intervention has Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 1259178 2 been needed to keep them safe. Staff have supported the child to attend medical appointments when required.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Risks relating to self-harm remain high. One incident has occurred since the monitoring visit and appropriate action was taken by staff to respond to this. The manager is reviewing the incident to understand how the child sourced and used items to hurt themselves with, given the high levels of staff supervision and support.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Steps are being taken to upskill staff, with bespoke behaviour management training, including training in physical intervention, scheduled to take place mid-August. The manager has also undertaken further safeguarding training to refresh and develop his skills and knowledge in this area.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Concerns raised at the full inspection about suitability checks on staff have been partially addressed. There is now evidence that information contained in references is followed up and verified. However, organisation of recruitment records is poor and references for the newly appointed manager were taken after he had started employment. This does not show proactive due diligence by the responsible individual.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Two requirements raised at previous inspections have been met, in relation to the child having appropriate bedroom furniture and verification of references. The remaining requirements are restated and will be reviewed at a future inspection as the due date has not yet passed.
