p.1

The provision requires improvement

The children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. She gives children lots of cuddles, when needed, which helps them to feel emotionally secure. The childminder has clear routines to support the children's needs. Children develop healthy habits, such as being outdoors, where they can be active, which helps to support their physical well-being.

p.2

The provision requires improvement

Children benefit from a satisfactory selection of resources and toys. However, some children are not supported as well as possible to be engaged and focused in their learning. They independently choose activities they want to engage in. However, at times, what they chose does not provide children with adequate challenges for their age and stage of learning. Furthermore, activities are not yet planned around children's interests and experiences. This means that learning experiences do not sufficiently motivate children to learn as well as possible. Although the childminder carries out the assessment check for children aged between two and three years, she does not fully understand her role in carrying this out to ensure that parents are fully involved. Children are developing good speaking skills, and the childminder interprets their non-verbal communication successfully. Children make some progress and are confident. Children behave well, and they learn to share

n Children are safe and move around the childminder's premises with ease. The childminder shows a clear understanding of how to keep children safe. However, she has not fully understood the ratio requirements that she must adhere to, and on some days, she has too many children present at any one time. n The childminder helps children to develop a strong sense of belonging in her home. They develop a close bond with the childminder and make good friendships with each other. Children are confident to approach the childminder and to engage her in their play. For example, they request stories to read with the childminder. n Although the childminder knows the children well, she does not use her assessments of their development to monitor progress precisely. She does not always focus planning sharply on children's next steps or identify less obvious gaps in their overall learning to help them make rapid progress.

p.2

need to do better?

n Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder communicates daily with parents and sends them regular photos of their children engaged in activities during the day. n The childminder helps children learn to share and take turns when playing. She encourages children to acknowledge their own feelings and helps them to manage their emotions. She asks them how they are feeling and what they think

need to do better?

3 August 2023 may help them to feel better. Children behave well, and the childminder deals with any minor disagreements sensitively. She praises the children for their achievements, and this boosts their self-esteem. n Overall, children make satisfactory progress in their communication and language skills. Children who speak English as an additional language are given time and encouragement to talk. The childminder knows words in their home language to support them with this. The childminder has back-and-forth conversations with children as they play and regularly reads them stories and sings songs. n The childminder talks to children about their families, and they learn about similarities and differences between themselves and their friends. They also learn about some festivals celebrated in the wider community. However, there are limited resources available for children to use at the setting that reflect the

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Safeguarding

The childminder understands how to recognise if a child may be at risk of harm. She knows how to report different types of concern that she may have regarding a child's welfare. The childminder knows the procedures to follow if an allegation is made against her or a household member. The childminder carries out effective risk assessments so that the environment is safe and secure. She has systems in place to ensure that any children with allergies or dietary requirements are kept safe at the setting.
