The provision is good
Children are warmly welcomed by the caring childminder. They settle quickly and are confident and happy in the childminder's home. Younger children who need extra support to settle receive good attention, cuddles and reassurance. They quickly leave their comforters and join in with activities. They have fun, sorting and posting shapes. The childminder engages children in conversation as they talk about the colours and shapes and count the blocks together. Children learn new words, such as 'oval' and 'triangle', as they successfully match the objects. They are thrilled with the praise they receive as they guess the correct shape. The childminder is skilful in how she poses questions and speaks respectfully with the children. She has a very caring and gentle approach.
p.2
The provision is good
Young children are eager to investigate the toys and resources on offer in the bright playroom. Children initiate their own play, as they can easily access high- quality toys from low shelving. They excitedly choose farm puzzles and make the noises of farm animals, recalling what they have previously learned. Children enjoy dancing and respond with enthusiasm to music the childminder plays. She provides them with a selection of musical instruments, and they have fun banging drums and shaking bells in time to the music.

They play well together and understand the childminder's expectations. Children receive lots of praise for their efforts. n The childminder welcomes parents into her home and gathers appropriate and relevant information in preparation for children to settle. Parents speak positively about the care and attention their children receive from the attentive and accommodating childminder. They comment that they feel reassured when they leave their children in her care, that their children are settled and have fun. However, while the childminder does provide feedback about the day's activities, she does not encourage parents to routinely share what they know about their children and support them to continue and extend children's learning at home.
