This privately owned home was registered with Ofsted in March 2023. The home provides care for up to six children with learning disabilities.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The manager registered with Ofsted at the time the home opened.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Ofsted judged the home as inadequate following the full inspection on 23 and 24 May 2023. On 30 May 2023, Ofsted served a notice restricting accommodation at the home. Ofsted also served compliance notices relating to the leadership and management of the home and how well children are helped and protected. The purpose of this visit was to assess the provider’s adherence to the restriction of accommodation and to review the provider’s progress in meeting the steps set out in the compliance notices.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The provider has adhered to the restriction of accommodation. The provider has not admitted any children to the home since the last full inspection.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The provider has addressed all but one of the steps that were set out in the compliance notices. The four requirements that were raised at the full inspection have been met. No further compliance notices have been served. The remaining shortfall is being addressed through a requirement.
p.1
This monitoring visit
There was one child living at the home at the time of this monitoring visit. The child said that they feel safe and are very happy living there. They trust staff and enjoy spending time with them. The child has built positive relationships with adults and is engaging in home-schooling work and developing skills for independence. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2718127 2 The manager has implemented a training programme for all staff, delivered by an independent social care consultant. This includes training in positive behaviour support and safe physical interventions. Staff have now completed all the required training and work is underway to assess the effectiveness of this. This has helped staff to have confidence in supporting the child well.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff now receive regular supervision sessions and opportunities to engage in reflective practice. Team meetings take place each week to improve communication between staff. The registered manager receives supervisory support from the provider’s responsible individual.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Improvements have been made to protect the child from the risks associated with internet-enabled devices. This includes the addition of enhanced parental controls and monitoring and filtering software. Staff have supported the child to complete training and awareness sessions in online safety.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The manager has reviewed records and systems relating to children’s safety and the monitoring and mitigating of risk. Staff have received training to improve the quality of information they record. Newly implemented monitoring and review processes mean that managers check and evaluate the information recorded. Managers update the child’s records with new information and provide direction for staff to follow.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The manager has completed training to improve her knowledge and understanding of reporting serious incidents to Ofsted. Since the last inspection, there have been no incidents that have required reporting.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Improvements have been made to support the child to participate in structured home-schooling. The manager has established positive relationships with education professionals and advocated for the child to have statutory reviews of their education provision.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The manager and responsible individual are working closely together to deliver the provider’s action plan to address the shortfalls found at the last inspection. They have a positive and supportive relationship. The responsible individual now spends time in the home at regular intervals, to monitor progress against the quality assurance plan that they have developed.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The provider has arranged for a suitably experienced independent person to undertake monthly visits to the home. The independent person produces a detailed report that sets out their findings, which are incorporated by the manager into the home’s development plan.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Children’s medicines are now stored securely. However, audits of records had not identified an error when transcribing the details of a prescription onto the administration record. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2718127 3 The home is a welcoming environment that has been personalised to meet the needs of the child. However, minor repairs have not been attended to in a timely way.
p.2
This monitoring visit
One previous recommendation relating to recruitment of staff has not been reviewed at this monitoring visit as no new staff have been recruited. This recommendation is therefore restated. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2718127 4
