p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and active at this homely setting. They enjoy spending time outdoors and taking part in gardening activities. Children enjoy watering the plants every day and have lots of opportunities to practise pouring and digging, which gives them confidence in their abilities. The childminder responds to children's interests and joins in with their play to extend their learning. For example, she initiates a ball game when she notices children using other resources as a bat, which helps children develop their coordination skills. The childminder forms a secure, responsive relationship with children. She offers reassuring words when children are worried. For example, when they spill some bubble mixture, she tells children: 'There's still lots left' and encourages them to carry on playing. She gives them cuddles as they get tired and soothes them to sleep.

The childminder teaches them to put on their own shoes and use the toilet when they are ready. Children learn important social skills, such as turn-taking and kindness. The childminder uses observations to identify children's next steps and plans experiences that support children to make good progress.
