This monitoring visit
Staffing levels and the supervision of children is a concern. During this monitoring visit, one child spent a considerable amount of time in the sensory room unsupervised, despite the child’s care plan and risk assessment stating that the child should be supervised at all times by two staff. In addition, leaders and managers have not assessed the risks posed to the child being on their own in the sensory room. There are several discrepancies between the staff rota and the home’s staff signing-in book. Furthermore, the registered manager does not sign in when she is Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2638590 2 in the home and is not always working in the home when she is on the staff rota. This makes it difficult to determine if there are sufficient staff on shift to care for the children in line with their care plans.

This monitoring visit
The use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) in the home is not necessary and proportionate. CCTV is not used to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Leaders and managers state that CCTV is used to help them to manage allegations. Furthermore, children’s risk assessments do not include information about the use of CCTV or the reason why it is necessary for the safety and protection of children.
p.2
This monitoring visit
