p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a welcoming environment where children are happy, settled and confident to express themselves. She works with a co-childminder and assistants. They know the children very well, and children have equally close bonds with them all. Children readily go to them for cuddles and confidently seek them out to share their play experiences. When the childminder is engaged in the children's play and learning, she responds well to their interests and builds on what they already know. Children who learn best from being outdoors can do so.

p.2

The provision is good

Children behave well and respond positively to the childminder's high expectations. They use 'please' and 'thank you', sometimes without prompting. Children demonstrate a positive attitude to their play and learning. The childminder helps them to develop the key skills needed to be ready for school. Even very young children sit quietly and concentrate in large-group activities. They listen carefully to stories and enjoy looking at the illustrations in storybooks. Children are encouraged to recall what they have heard. They are helped to have regard for their personal hygiene. Children understand the importance of using sun cream before going out in the sunshine.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder has worked hard to address the actions set at her last inspection. For example, she has completed training in managing children's behaviour. The childminder has revised how she manages unwanted behaviour and the words that she uses. n The childminder sets clear and age-appropriate boundaries for the children, and she gently reminds them of these throughout the day. She builds children's self- esteem effectively, giving meaningful praise for good behaviour. Children enjoy a 'high-five' in recognition of their efforts. n The childminder talks confidently about the children in her care. She knows where they are in their learning and what she needs to do to support their continuing progress. The childminder provides activities that are varied, interesting and build on what children already know. Children are enthusiastic to explore and investigate the activities available to them. n The childminder provides a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities.

p.2

need to do better?

Children have recently made gifts for Father's Day. The childminder encourages children to count as they put home-made biscuits into decorated containers. However, she is sometimes distracted by routine activities and housekeeping tasks. During these times, her interactions with the children are not as strong as at other times to promote their play and learning experiences to the highest level. n Children become confident communicators. The childminder engages children

13 June 2023 well, modelling conversation and actively listening to what they have to say. The childminder responds positively to the babbles and gestures of younger children. n Children have daily opportunities for exercise and fresh air, helping to promote their good health and physical well-being. Children learn about the wider world beyond their immediate experiences. For example, they have recently learned about the coronation of King Charles III. They have been taken on a visit to the post office to purchase stamps, and they post cards home to their parents. n The childminder is committed to providing all children with a good quality care and learning experience. Since her last inspection, she has completed training to help her enhance the quality of her teaching. The childminder has a challenging but achievable action plan to bring about continuous improvement to the quality of the provision. n The childminding assistants maintain mandatory training, for example, paediatric

first aid. However, the childminder does not consistently monitor the quality of their daily practices to support them in providing highly effective teaching and learning. n The childminder demonstrates friendly and trusting relationships with parents. She keeps them informed about their children's day, both through written information and daily verbal feedback. However, the childminder has not initiated partnerships with other settings that children attend to fully promote an effective two-way flow of information and consistency in approach.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

Since the last inspection, the childminder has completed training in safeguarding to ensure that she knows how to make a referral in line with local procedures. She is aware of the indicators of abuse. The childminder understands the importance of keeping full and accurate records of concerns. She has also completed training in wider safeguarding issues such as county lines and 'Prevent' duty. This helps to ensure that she is able to identify and support vulnerable families. The outdoor area has been risk assessed, and changes have taken place to ensure that it is safe for children.

should:

n focus more closely on consistently maintaining good levels of interaction with children, particularly during daily routine activities and housekeeping tasks n strengthen the arrangements to monitor the quality of the daily practices of the childminding assistants to provide them with useful mentoring and coaching n establish timely partnerships with others who provide care and learning for the children to promote two-way sharing of information.
