Overall effectiveness Inadequate

The quality of education Inadequate Behaviour and attitudes Inadequate Personal development Inadequate Leadership and management Inadequate Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Inadequate

p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children are not safe. The childminder does not understand how to identify risks that comprise children's safety and well-being. Children fall over the tripping hazards in the garden. The childminder does not ensure that she supervises children effectively. She frequently leaves children alone in the garden while she goes into the house to fetch equipment and resources. She leaves children unsupervised when they are eating, which poses a risk of them choking.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not know how to manage challenging behaviour, which results in children who lash out at others, shout and refuse to listen to instructions. The childminder does not know how to react to children's outbursts, and their disruptive behaviour continues, as they do not receive the support and guidance they need.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder is kind and caring towards the children. However, she does not recognise how to support children's learning. Her curriculum does not focus on what children need to learn next, and the assessments that she makes of children's progress are not accurate. Children have access to a range of resources. For example, they enjoy playing with the water tray in the garden.

p.2

need to do better?

n Since her last inspection, the childminder has not made the necessary improvements needed to raise the quality of the service she is providing. Despite the childminder working with other professionals and trying to improve her practice, she is still unable to manage children's behaviour in a positive way. She does not help children to understand right from wrong or the consequences of their actions. The childminder spends a lot of time comforting children after they have been fighting over toys or after they have displayed unkind behaviour. n The childminder does not use what she knows about children to meet their individual needs. For instance, she pushes them in the pushchair around the garden for long periods to try to get the children to go to sleep. This is despite the children happily playing and it not being their usual routine time to sleep. n The childminder is unable to provide a safe environment for children, despite

this being identified for her to improve on several occasions. She has not considered the hazards in her garden that pose a risk to children. For instance, paving stones are uneven and raised, the drain is raised, and there are small stones that children could put in their mouths. Although the childminder has been made aware that she must supervise children at all times, she continues to leave them alone, for example, in the garden. Children fall over unobserved, and the childminder does not know how or why because she is not present. n The childminder has made some improvements to how she works with parents.

p.2

need to do better?

24 May 2023 She has updated her records to include information about children's interests and who has parental responsibility. However, she does not work with them to support children's learning or to manage their feelings and behaviour. The childminder has not made parents aware of the behaviours their children are displaying when with her. n The childminder does not have a curriculum that focuses on children's learning needs. Although she knows what children need, such as help for their personal, social and emotional development, she does not target her activities or support to help them achieve. Activities lack challenge, and children become bored, which impacts on their behaviour. Children are not well prepared for the next stage of their learning and the eventual move on to school.

p.2

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder does not have a clear understanding of her role and responsibility to keep children safe. There are many risks present in the areas in which children play. This includes large play equipment, which the childminder fails to supervise as children play. The childminder understands how to identify the signs that might suggest that a child is at risk of abuse, and she is aware of the procedures to follow to report any concerns that she has.
